Where did you get your dog?? Did you breed her purposely?

Good luck..............

Good luck with the puppies. Our old dog, Brownie had 10 pups and they were lots of fun but hard work! (You try giving 10 pups meds while outside with the puppies running around you being crazy and all of them looking alike! lol)
Just please consider spaying your dog when the puppies are all grown up and ready to leave the mother. Anyways, good luck with the pups!

I won't even condone what you allowed to happen by saying congratulations. It was irresponsible to allow a mixed breed dog to get pregnant. Now, it is that many more dogs in a shelter that will lose the chance of getting a home. And there is nothing cute about that. Just think about that the next time you look at your puppies or consider letting your dog have more. I seriously hope you consider getting her spayed, as by letting her have more puppies, you are contibuting to the overpopulation of dogs in this world.

Angelwing- Congratulations. And be responsible!

Coldnose I felt the need to reply to your post.

I agree with you to a certain point in not breeding mix breeds. However, I have a mixed breed, ‘Sable (who is 9yrs old and can be seen under dog photo’s) who I took in (6yrs ago) because a couple had a baby who was crawling and didn't want thier son getting Sable's hair in his mouth. How irresponsible of the parents and what a stupid reason to wanting to get rid of her! It wasnt because of her being a mixed breed but because of Sable's hair. These are the reasons why most animals are in shelters. People/ couples don't think ahead like that. Thats the problem. Sable is the best dog anyone could ever wish for. In my opinion I think mixed breeds are healthier, smarter, livelonger and have great personalities. I will admit at one point and time my fiancé and I wanted her to have puppies. After thinking about it we decided not too, here are some of the reasons why,
Worried if something would happen to her during pregnancy or delivery
To many dogs that are in shelters, didn’t need to add to the existing unwanted or mistreated animals.
The medical costs to vaccinate, etc (not something we could have afforded at that time).
Making sure all puppies would go to safe and loving homes through the entire life of the dog.
Time and patience that was/is required.
This would have been our first time and only time if we decided we wanted her to have puppies, therefore we needed to educate ourselves on the breeding process (meaning- risks and health problems, etc). After making our decision not too, we shortly got her spayed. As a matter of fact all my girls are spayed even Cora and Copper who are purebreds.

This is tuff. I understand what you are trying to say here but who are you to say that? I have seen purebreds in shelters..not as often as the mixes but I do. Just because you buy a purebred from a breeder doesn’t guarantee that the dog won’t end up in one or that it won’t be mistreated. Don’t get me wrong, I understand that this is why we have the back yard breeders. However, this is why we need some sort of law that is enforced in all states to prevent backyard breeders. I think there should be some sort of law, for a non-breeder who wants to have a liter -go through some sort of education class, training, have them register (just make it hard) in order for them to allow their animal to have puppies. There should be limitations as well. Such as, only one liter allowed per household no matter how many dogs they own. I guess what I am trying to say is (I am not a breeder nor do I ever plan on allowing any of my dogs in the future to have puppies [because they will be spayed] so I do not know what it entails) But, if an owner allows his or her dog to have a liter, whether planned or not, to make sure they provided medical care costs and take responsibility, find homes for all the puppies no matter how long it takes or they would have to keep it, and get their animal spayed.

Anyhow to make a long story short - I recently asked a lady who came into my work in the beginning of spring and was in again last week. I asked her, ‘how is your Weimaraner’ and her reply was, ‘oh we give it away because it was to hyper’. I was so angry and started to give her the third degree. It P***** me off . Thats a whole other reply I wont subject all of you too.
People who don’t research, commit 100%, or who are not willing to take on the responsiblity on owning a dog should not have one…. Let alone allow them to have a liter, whether it is a purebred or mixed. A person who shall become a dog owner is an owner for the entire life of that dog, regardless’. A parent is a parent for the entire life of his or her child not just up until they are 18yrs of age or when things get rough.

Well I am sorry for this long post (longest one I have written) or if I went off the subject. But I just wanted to get it off my chest.

I hope I didn't misinterpret what you were saying- I read it through several times and still am not positive this is what you meant. If I read you wrong please igore and forgive me, but in response to what I understood you to be saying...

It doesn't matter how responsible the owner is after the fact. Coldnose's statement that they've just put more dogs into a world that does not have room for them is absolutely true. No matter how good of homes those puppies go to (which IS unlikely, I'm sorry to say), and even if they stayed in those homes their entire lives, they've still taken up homes that dogs already here desperately needed- and dogs will be killed for it.

I have to second Coldnose's statement and refuse my congratulations. However, AngelWing, if you need any help or have any questions, I'd be glad to help as best I can.

It's kinda like young kids having babies...
you're not going to pat them on the back and say "good job Junior!"
but on the other hand, "look at that innocent baby over there". And if the teenage kids need help on parental issues... you're not going to deny them b/c then you're only hurting the baby!

I hope the pups are all doing well!
