How did you dog get his/her name?

My 1st dogs name was Fonzie, my parents had him before I was born, and named him after the guy in the tv show Happy Days.

I named Duke after a local police dog, that I had fallen in love with.

I liked the name Taz, and wanted to name him with something that started with a T, because he has a white T on his chest.

My boyfriend named Princess, because she acts like a princess. We got her from a friend, so we got to know her personality, long before she came home with us. If she could talk, I'm sure she would be saying "look at me , look at me". She just loves being the center of attention.

So, how did your dogs get their names?

When I was in 4th grade, I had finished my daily work early, so I took a stroll around the school room, looking at all the posters. I came across a giant poster of all the presidents in US history. I read each of the names, and when I came to 'John Quincy Adams', I thought to myself that Quincy would be a good pet name.

So, nearly 5 years later, when we went to pick out a tiny English Springer Spaniel from a breeder, I begged that it be named Quincy...they name had stuck.

I already have the name for my next dog picked out....'Sparky', named after Charles Schultz

Nick (originally Nicky, but everyone thought he was a girl) was named after the Borzoi that my husband's mom had when she was growing up. We still call him Nicky, or NickyBuddy, or WiggleButt.

We also have the name of our next dog picked out (this time it will be a blue merle) - Zero - after Jack's dog in The Nightmare Before Christmas. Now, if only we could get a bigger house and yard, so that we would have room for two.....

I lean towards dignified human names for my animals. My first pug was Daphney.. horses were Jack, Daniel etc. And my current pugs. Winston, Oscar & Bentley. Good solid names LOL

I have always liked the name Bailey. The problem I have is everyone thinks it's a boy name and my dachund is a girl. We will be getting a little boy weinerdog next month and his name is going to be Baxter.

Barrett I know a female Bailey...

Shredder was named after the Ninja turtle rat, my fiance was about 11 or so when they got her so he was in love with the ninja turtles...

Runt was cuz she was the Runt of Shredder's litter.

Kino was a wierd story. We got him and were running off names, most of which I didnt like. My fiances mother said Eskimo, my fiance decided the whole thing wasnt needed and said Kimo, I didnt like that cuz it sounded too much like cancer treatment, so I just changed the m to an n, then later realized Keno is a poker game.

My parents dog is Niki, I named him after Niki Sixx from Motley Crue.

Jake was named Jake when we adopted him. The poor guy had already been through so much turmoil, that we didn't have the heart to change his name. But no matter, he's deaf... we can call him whatever we want... and we do! Captain Poopy Pants, Stinky Magoo, Jake Dirt, Old Man, Chicken Nugget.... He only responds to hand sgnals, anyway.

Peanut's a Saint, so we thought it'd be cute to name her something ironic. But after almost a week, we still couldn't make up our minds. Then my sister visited, and having nothing certain to call her, began talking to Peanut all cutesy, calling her different things. She spit out, "Hi, little peanut chew," and we kept it as Peanut since then.

Melanie....I did not know that Jake was deaf. I bet he is really happy to have Peanut around too! They say a hearing dog is really good for a deaf dog.

I guess I'll jump in here too and tell ya how mine got there names. Sammys full name is Samantha. I was undesided on what name to name my daughter it was Angelica or Samantha so I picked Angelica for her and then when we got Sammy named her the other name.

Lazarus was a name my son picked out for Laz. I don't know why but he really liked the name and Lupo came with his name. The only thing we can guess is that I woman who first took him away from his abusive family picked the name because she is from another country and Lupo means wolf in another country.

Yup, Dawn, Peanut helps him a great deal. If Jake isn't watching me, she lets him know when I'm going to the front door, when I'm going to the biscuit cabinet, when I'm getting in the shower, etc... so they BOTH can follow me and make sure not to let me stray too far. And Jake helps Peanut a lot, too. She has learned all appropriate behavior from our good old boy.
Before we got Peanut, we almost got a blind Springer, but someone adopted him before we could. I wonder how that would have played out... a deaf dog and a blind dog .

Well I named my dog Cloey (spelled wierd to give it a twist ). Her full name is Cloey of Sheltie Island. I named her this because if I had a Shetland Sheepdog Kennel I would name it Sheltie Island and I named her Cloey becuz it makes me think of a clover and how lucky I am to have her

Ripley was named from the AKC/show name that I had picked out for him: Gracie's Believe it or Not
