The dog should never be left in the same room with the kid. Your dog probably does not feel well and when he hits him, it has to hurt. And if the kid keeps hitting him after the growl and brake then I don’t think he was to scared. jmo

Yes, a child should not be allowed to hit a dog. Would you want him to do it if it was Tiny?

Your dog may become irritated enough till one day he doesn't just bark and growl

yes I know thats what I'm affraid of..but see my nefew well he is quite a handfull...see I could spank him for hitting buddy then he will just go right back and do it again..he is very evil..he just does to irritate me..when actually its buddy he is irritation...but i will do my best to solve this problem...I don't want my nefew getting bitten...but I don't think buddy would ever go that far..he knows if he does then he will be in big trouble.

Melanie used to be like that with Molly (our Grandma's Schnauzer). Only Molly wasn't just 'all bark'. She snapped. We just taught Melanie how to pet her. (ie. not roughly like she does our big doggies, but gently.)

IMO, you should try to keep them seperated or keep a closer I on the kid, but to bad you don't know that when Buddy might bite, it will only be a little nip and it wouldn't hurt the kid, cause then that might teach the kid a lesson. 'Don't hit the dog unless you want him to snap at you.' That was what happend with Melanie. Molly got fed up with her, and snapped at her. It didn't hurt her, it just scared her big time.
