Smile has your dog/dogs ever saved your or someone else?

max has saved me a few times but the scariest one was when i was walking at night one evening and this man was following us and it wasn't like it was one fo those thing where they are like "hey let me follow the kid with the dog for a while" the man followed us from the dog run all the way to my block and then i decided that it was obiously not safe to be near this man

the man stopped for a minute and then max started growling at the man and the man pulled out what i think was a knife (it was dark so i really couldn't see well) nad max stood between me and this weirdo until the guy decided that max wasn't going to back away for anything

i was happy to have max there that night it was almost 2 years ago

so has any of your dog or dogs saved you or anyone else befor?

Oh my god, Roman! That must have been SOOO frightening!!

When I was 10 years old I was just heading home with my sister from taking Harley for an afternoon walk to the local park. We came across a 'stray' dog which kept following my sister and I as we continued to walk down the road. Being the animal lover that I was (and still am), I stopped to pat the dog (STUPID MISTAKE). The dog's demeanour took a 180 degree turn - he suddenly jumped up on me, placing his paws on my shoulders! I tried to push him off me but he was so heavy that he wouldn't budge. Anyway, the dog was about to bite me on the face, when Harley bit the dog on his leg and the dog jumped off me! I was SOOO thankful to have Harley there with me when it all happened, otherwise there's no telling what might have happened. Anyway, my sister and I ran back to our house as fast as we could, but didn't have time to close our front gate. The dog stood at our front door for 4 hours!! So, I think I could say Harley definitely saved me from a scary situation.

And another....

When we went to Melbourne for holidays one time, we took Abby with us. We were in the city once when we were walking Abby. We noticed this large-ish dog was roaming around the streets. It was about to step right out infront of fast moving traffic, including cars and trams, when Abby let out a loud bark. The dog stopped just short of getting hit by a car, much thanks to Abby!

Wow what wonderful stories - just shows how big a bond exists between dogs and their owners!!

I've never actually been saved but my old GS used to think she was saving us (my dad used to stir her up by pretending he was hitting me and my sister) anyway he thought he was being a smart arse by doing it with her on the otherside of the screen door - well Tara didn't take too kindly to that and simply came right through the door at him - needless to say that "game" stopped that day

When I was in college, I was walking Saboo late at night. I noticed someone walking behind me... but thought nothing of it at first. It's a college town, I lived in a popular area. Until... I made a bunch of turns and twists and noticed that he was slowly gaining on me. He was about 50 feet behind us (and we were a half block from a well lit area) when I heard his foot steps speed up. Saboo started growling and snarling as she lunged at him. It startled him enough to let her and I run into a gas station on the corner. He had the nerve to lurk outside the gas station until the police showed up. Scary.

And more recently... We had left a pizza box on top of the stove by accident, and Hippo must have tried to get a leftover piece of pizza- she managed to turn on a burner. Which was underneath a cardboard box- a bad combo. Hippo came running upstairs whimpering (an unusual noise from her). I stepped out into the hallway and smelled smoke and put the fire out. So... she saved us. After she tried to kill us.

Shamous just saved some one about 2 weeks ago. Post is under "shamous saved a life" or my dog saved a life..can't remember.

Anyway, we live on a very dangerous double curve with a 30-40 ft gorge on the other side of our rd. One night Shamous started barking like a lunatic. After I ignored him for a minute the barking changed more to a panic sound. Hard to describe, but we all know our dogs barks. He grabbed my arm and pulled me off the bed and he ran to the window. When I looked out. I barely saw tail lights in the bottome of the gorge.

The woman was hurt very badly. I just spoke with her family since they were out taking pictures of the spot. She lost her eye, shattered her pelvis, broke her arm, ankle and colar bone.

By the way when they asked me how we knew there had been an accident, and I told them about Shamous, they said "oh". They couldn't have cared less that He saved their MOTHER. Didn't even want to meet him. I am very proud of him. My big boy.

Blitz once peed on someone's leg at the dog park. I'm convinced he thought they had been stung by a jellyfish and he was administering first aid. So what if we were in Ohio?

Our dogs have never actually saved our lives, but Blackie has tried in a couple of situations. We had an insurance dude come out to our house one day when we first moved in. (I think he was a land surveyer?) Anyways, my mom told him she'd be out back hanging up some clothes on the clothes line and to take his time looking around.
She was out back with Blackie when the dude walks around the corner of the house. Blackie imeadiately jumped up, growled, and started running after the guy. The guy just froze and my mom yelled, "Blackie, No! It's ok!" and Blackie stopped, gave the dude a look, and then laid back down by my mom's feet.
I'm sure he thought he was protecting her from the big scary man walking around our house. He also does a good job protecting us from loose dogs on walks...if one comes up he puts up such a fuss it leaves soon after.

LOL Gooch.

My dogs have never saved any lives but they may have prevented harm.

My noisy neighbor called me once to tell me that my back porch light (a single bulb 1/2 acre away) was shinning in his bedroom. When I told him that the utility company encouraged us to leave on our porch lights during the summer months to prevent thefts, he told me that I shouldn't worry because I had my GSD.

I remember one summer evening my childhood mutt was barking outside. I told him to "hush up" and the next morning the stereo was stolen from the car.

My Min Pin always is "protecting" me when we go out. He puts the "terror" in "terrior".

I have never had a dog actually save my life or someone else's, but my mom had a dog that did.

My mom had just gotten back from picking up my brothers from their dads house, and was getting them put into bed. Her GSD, Gypsy, had just had a litter of pups. My mom walked into the living room, and noticed the side door (from the garage) was cracked open, and a work boot stepped inside. Gypsy was at my mom's side, and the minute the boot stepped in the door, she ran after the man. My mom watched her run down the street, nipping at the guys heels and the back of his legs. My mom jumped across an 8 foot wide ditch to get to the neighbors to call for help (she didn't have a phone). She doesn't know if they ever found the man, but Gypsy returned home safely, and never left my mom's side the rest of the night unless she had to feed the puppies.

My mom said Gypsy was also the type of dog that was only okay with people unless she saw my mom was fine with them. If anyone came in the house and tried to get up suddenly or walk towards my mom too quick, she would sit up and let out a deep, throaty growl until my mom said "It's okay". She would always keep a watchful eye. Unfortunately, my mom was moving and asked her ex-husband to keep her until she found a place to live. Well, he ended up giving her away. My mom was so upset.

Sarge was the only one that really was my "protector". If anyone got too close, or if I felt nervous, he made it known that he was there and no one was to come closer unless I told him it was okay.

Actually, now that I think of it.. he did "save" me one time.

My aunt and I were out fishing under this huge bridge. We brought Sarge and Dozer (boxer/Bullmastiff) with us since it was only the two of us. There was a homeless guy that had been staying under there for quite a while, and at one point was becoming a huge pest. I forget what exactly he kept bothering us about... I think he just kept talking and was trying to come over there. Well, Sarge and Dozer both stood on each side of the pillar, and barked and snarled... the guy finally says "I guess they mean business". The dogs were "on-guard" the rest of the day and wouldn't let anyone come close to us.

No one would ever believe me when I told them that Sarge was the biggest baby in the world, unless I instructed him he needed to protect me. I had a friend over that didn't believe me, and actually told me that he was going to run down the street, and to send Sarge after him. I asked him "Are you sure? Don't get mad if he gets to you and does anything" He said "Yes, I do want you to". So, I told Sarge "Go get'um" and he shot after him like white on rice. The kid climbed up the tree as Sarge was at the base barking. The kid then told me "Okay, I believe you! Holy cow! Call him off please!" I simply said "Sargent, enough! Come!" and he came back to me and happily licked the kid in the face when he came back. LOL

I was also laying on my bed with Sarge when my friend tried to tickle me. The kid couldn't get his arm past Sarge. Sarge growled and stared at him like "Go ahead, I dare you". He never tried to mess around after that. LOL

Wow, sorry so long. It just brings back a lot of memories of Sarge. I think that's why him and I had such a strong bond because he was soo attached to me and so protective. I felt so secure and safe having him around because I know that he would never let anything happen to me. It was certainly something that was a very special trait in him.
