Meet Lucy
A friend of mine works at one of our animal shelters. Animal control was called on some people that were neglecting their dogs. The people were breeding their dachshunds in horrible conditions. My friend told me that 6 dogs and 6 puppies were kept in cat sized crates in the garage stacked on top of one another. The owners never cleaned up the potty on the floor of the garage and there were rotting garbage bags everywhere. There was not enough food and water for the dogs and they were starving and underweight. Animal control took all of the dogs away and the people released ownership of them.
This little pup is Lucy. I adopted her and she will come home in about 2 weeks. ![]() |

As for the puppies...There are (2) two week old black and tans, (1) five month old chocolate and tan, (2) five month old reds and Lucy is about 10 weeks old. I want to foster one or two of the adults too. I have a big house and yard and Bailey would love the company. I have never fostered before and I am nervous and excited. Someone from the shelter is going to come over to our house in two weeks. I want every one of them to find a home. I am calling all of my dachshund play group members to see if they can take any of the dogs or pups as adoption or foster.

Awww what an adorable little girl! I'm glad they stepped in and got all of them away from those people, people like that should be made to live in the very same conditions to see how well they like it!
Hope everyone finds a wonderful forever home! ![]() |

My husband is excited and I am nervous and excited. I am worried that Bailey won't get along with more dogs in our house. I am nervous about potty training and obedience training more than one dog/puppy at a time. My husband and I have very flexible schedules and we can bid for opposite days off from work so the puppy and dogs will have someone home almost every day. Maybe one day out of two weeks they would have to be alone for 10 hours. I am sure these poor adult dogs are not potty trained because of their bad living conditions. My friend is going to let me see the pictures of the home where these dogs were kept next week. I don't know if I even want to see them. It will be a while before all of the dogs are ready for foster and adoption. They have to get spayed/neutered, get healthy and put on weight for a bit. The older pups will be ready for adoption sooner and the tiny baby ones will stay with their mommy for a few more months.
I suppose if we get to foster one or two of the older dogs they will know each other and will get along. I'm just worried about my spoiled rotten Bailey allowing the other dogs to move in with her and share her toys and food. Any tips on helping multiple dogs get along? I have only had one dog at a time before. |

Oh-yeah..I'm going to visit the shelter on Monday and I'll bring my digital camera so I can take better pictures. The one I posted above is with my phone and they just don't show the details.
Heh-heh...my husband just called for the 6th time today to tell me his thoughts on how to make the fostering go smoothly. He is going nuts in Chicago and wants to come home and visit the puppy and see the other dogs. He is soooo excited. He wants a weiner dog farm (LOL) and thinks we are on our way to getting one. With this many dogs in my house I bets it's going to feel like a farm all right! |
