I had a scare like that with my cat about 2 yrs ago. 2 weeks before we moved a big red lab came up to our porch and stayed. We were going to take him with us since he was a stray. Moving day we had the door open and "big red" as we so fondly called him was no where to be seen at first. I had squeekers locked in another room. The door was just the sliding type. and we were moving everything in the truck. Well here came big red and we didn't think anything about it. He went straight into my house, opened that door and chased squeekers into the kitchen. I thought he fell down the well (kitchen was built on top of an old well.) I was soo freaked out! Turns out he was behind the water heater. We didn't take that dog! Poor squeekers has been chased 3 times now by dogs. He never fully recouperated from that. He still hates dogs

Poor Salem must have been terrified! Poor baby! Glad all's OK except for what you had to tear up to save Salem!

lol! Hubby says that the animals I always seem to rescue and bring home tend to cost more in the long run then the ones we purchase for hundreds of dollars..lol

Oh wow. That had to be scary for Salem and what a bummer to have to tear up your basement. I'm sorry you are having such a time and hope things will all clear up soon.
