Breed Specific Legislation Update

The cities and/or counties below are considering breed-specific laws. If you live in one of these areas, voice your opinion. Contact the Legislative Affairs Committee Chair at nikitadog31@yahoo.com for sample letters and information on how to contact your officials. The more local residents with dog knowledge who contact those considering such laws, the more likely the impact on stopping them. Even if a law has already been passed, you can still make a difference by letting your local leaders know your thoughts.

ARKANSAS – North Little Rock; McGeehee
IOWA – Council Bluffs
KANSAS – Leavenworth
MASSACHUSETTS – Malden, New Bedford
NEW JERSEY – The State Senate is proposing S1718, a law that would require special licenses for pit bulls, as well as muzzles in public and other restrictions. CANADA – Ontario

IOWA: Fairfield, Monticello
WISCONSIN – Lancaster

Here is an organization that is very active in fighting BSL's:

If a locality is trying to enact a BSL and they have a member who lives there they actively get involved and will even fight it though the court system. They fight bad legislation all over the country on a variety of issues as well as promote responsible dog ownership.
