So Excited!!
Hey everyone!! I haven't been around much lately.
This job has been a lot of work!! I can't log on here nearly as much! LOL! Anyway, I just wanted to say hey and that I miss everyone AND that I'm meeting with a girl who's having to give up her schnauzer in Oklahoma City. Apparently, the girl has to move and can't take him with her. He's a little mini about 20 lbs, solid white and just turned 2 this month. The girl says he has a wonderful personality, no housetraining problems, and LOVES other dogs. So I told her I was definitely interested and want for Boone and Hercules to meet to see if they would get along. That's a must. I'm really trying not to get my hopes up for this, but I'm praying it works out. I've wanted another dog for a long time and this one kinda feel in my lap. This dog is still intact (for some strange reason) and I told her that'd I'd fix that as soon as I possibly could. Everyone else that's been calling for him has wanted to use him as a "stud" dog. Ugh disgusting. So that's why I'm top of the list. So wish me luck and if anyone has any good advice about bringing a new dog home, I'd appreciate it! ![]() |

Conrgats and good luck.
Keep 'im confined at first. Either in baby-gated room, crate, or exercise pen. Slowly increas the amount of room he has to himself to let him get used to his new home and family members. Don't overwhelm him with lots of treats and hugs and things like that. |

Wow! Good luck, he sounds like the perfect friend for Boone. Is Boone already fixed? Since the other dog is still intact it could cause dominance issues. Perhaps Boone and Hercules could meet at a park or some other neutral area a few times before you bring him to your house. I am getting another dachshund next week for Bailey. I want her to have a little sister for company too so I know how you feel. I hope he works out for you and Boone!

Barrett - I'm so excited for you too! Bailey will be so happy to have someone to play with I'm sure. Please post pics of the two of them as soon as you can! I don't think I ever told you this but my aunt has a little mini dachshund and her and Boone are a riot together. It's very very hilarious.
We plan to meet at a park complex in a town halfway between our homes. And I plan on spending at least an hour with her and Hercules to at least get an idea if he and Boone will get along. I've also spent about 2 1/2 hours talking to April, Hercules mom, on the phone the last couple of days. We've talked about everything from bowel movements to grooming and sleeping habits. He seems to be a wonderful little boy. And yes, Barrett, I am a little concerned with the whole dominance issue. April says that her mother has two intact males at her house and there have never been any problems with any of them. That still doesn't mean there won't be problems with Hercules and the Boonster. You're right, Carrie, it will take a while for everything to be work itself out and see if it will be a good match. I'm just hoping I can get a good idea of how things will go tomorrow night and if any trouble does happen, that we'll all three be able to work it out. I definitely plan on neutering him as soon as I can. It will probably have to be after the first of the year, since money is extremely hard to come by right now (anyone else feel that way?! LOL). Thanks everyone for the good luck wishes. I'm back at my regular job starting Monday, so you'll be seeing more and more of me then! ![]() |

Okay, well, it didn't work out. The girl kinda led me on about some things and he was a little too agressive towards Boone for my comfort. So I went with my gut feeling and didn't take him. It may have worked out in a few days if I would have taken him, but I just didn't feel like that was my dog.
She called me a couple hours after we met and she gave him to a nice family with two little girls. I think that would work better with him being the only dog in the house. Hopefully, that family will neuter him as soon as they can. Anyway, thanks guys for the encouragement. I was a little disappointed but knew I did the right thing for Boone and me in the long run. Maybe one of these days . . . ![]() |

I'm sorry it didn't work out for you and Boone. I know there is another schnauzer out there waiting to be apart of your family. Perhaps a younger dog or puppy will come your way soon that is more impressionable and will get along with Boone. Trust me, just wait and it will happen. I have been thinking about another dachshund for Bailey for almost a year now and Lucy fell into my lap. I get to give her a chance to grow up right in a loving home and Bailey has a best friend. If I had bought an impulse weiner at a breeder a year ago I wouldn't have Lucy.

Sorry it didn't work out but I'm sure you'll find one that will be a perfect fit soon.
