Boycot the Louisville cluster in March
***Cross Posted with Permission***
The Louisville city Council is about to pass the most dangerous BSL I have ever read. Not only does this one include Pit Bulls, you will now have to get a license if you have a kennel and do Agility, can you believe that? Also you will have to license for a fee of $100 any dog on their list if you come to the Louisville cluster. Wonder if that will include Agility and other Performance Dogs? AKC has lots of information about this on akc.org but here is a list of folks to write, tell them you will not support any city that openly discriminates and to me this BSL is total discrimination. Please note the fee for your breed if you go to shows in Louisville.. ......... email these people....tell them you will no longer attend horse or dog events in their city, and ask if they know how much revenue they will lose when the dog shows go kaput....... ...several hundred thousand dollars per day, by all counts. Wonder if they've done any research on the money generated by the dog shows -- what was it that Eukanuba brought to Long Beach the first time...over 4 million? It probably wouldn't hurt to write to the hotels where you've stayed when you "did" the Louisville shows in the past, either, and maybe the restaurants. .point out to them that you will not be returning due to this new law......... ... This law is one of the more awful things I've seen proposed in recent years, and that is saying a lot. I've been writing letters to my own city council recently about laws I thought were bad enough, and they don't even approach the insanity of the Louisville campaign. They'll be receiving a piece of my mind shortly. Thanks for giving us the heads up on this!

A.) I don't live there. Thank God.
B.) The people who live there need to tell their Democrats where to stick it when they create laws and ordinances like this. C.) (In all seriousness) How do they plan on maintaining this order? D.) Who is paying for the costs of making sure each resident has the correct number of pets per acre? I don't understand the basis for this? Has pet ownership been this much of a problem that an ordinance that strict is necessary? I agree that rules, regulation and fees are very important! They help keep the ignorant from hurting animals. But seriously, are there THAT many complaints about animals there?? Is anyone on this forum from Louisville and what are people in that area doing about it? |

Those laws go way too far. The laws would be abused by people who hate dogs.
![]() I would move out of that town quick if that was passed. Interesting. I did not know that microchips could cause cancer in dogs. |

Here comes the voice of dissent.
These laws will enable the town to prosecute those who shouldn't have animals in the first place. I highly doubt that responsible owners will be affected in the least. The problem is this: Responsible owners usually are law-abiding and will sweat being in violation in any way. (At least that is me.) What people don't understand, IMO, is that you can provide all of the education in the world but there will still be abusers. You can never prosecute abusers (and stop them) -- legally -- without having laws on the books. "Naughty, naughty" just won't do it. For example, educated and moral people know that incest is sick and wrong but it happens all of the time and will continue until the end of time. There are incest laws on the books so that society can prosecute violators. I suggest that the Louisville residents require their lawmakers to ensure the new laws are followed via inspections of kennels. Inspections must be auditable for accountability to the citizens. Once they realize how burdensome inspections will be to the town, they will be forced to amend the ordinance. |

I didn't read the WHOLE thing, but skimmed through it and I couldn't find the proposed regulations that the website cites. I wish they would note where in the document they are finding this info.
For example...the only place I saw about enclosures for unaltered dogs was that a dog in heat must be kept in an enclosure that would prevent it from coming in contact with any animal other than the one it is intended to be bred to...nothing about the enclosure having to be approved in writing by the Director. Granted, I could have missed it somewhere else, but since the website doesn't say WHERE in the regulations these restrictions are, it's hard to know for sure that they are even being honest. A lot of what I read seems to be common sense and fairly good management of pet animals (meaning - preventing one person's pet ownership from infringing upon another person's enjoyment of their property). I did find this on pg 29: Quote:

Of course, citizens are always within their rights to challenge laws in court if they infringe upon their rights.
