Calling all Boxer people!
Help me out with this. I'm part of yet another forum, and there's this one Boxer that was supposedly from a reputable breeder. Now, there's something odd about this dog. I didn't know what it was, until now. His muzzle curves up. Is that a fault? And there's just something else that I can't quite put my finger on...Maybe it's just because he's an uncropped puppy, but I don't know...I've seen normal eared Boxers and there's something different about him. *taps chin* Is it just me or is there a fault?

I don't know if the muzzle of that dog is a fault. It's hard to tell from those pictures how turned up the muzzle is...do you have any side views? Here is the part of the breed standard that deals with the muzzle...
Muzzle--The muzzle, proportionately developed in length, width and depth, has a shape influenced first through the formation of both jawbones, second through the placement of the teeth, and third through the texture of the lips. The top of the muzzle should not slant down (downfaced), nor should it be concave (dishfaced); however, the tip of the nose should lie slightly higher than the root of the muzzle. I do believe the nose would be a fault, they are supposed to be broad and black according to the standard. |

I can't really tell w/out seeing a side view but his nose should be broad and black with a squared muzzle. His head looks small but as I said he is young, his chest doesn't look very broad either. He could be a mix or just a result of a BYB..

Hmmmm...yeah, hard to tell without a side view...the nose is supposed to turn up slightly. The slender build could just be due to his age. Most Boxers don't fully fill out til the age of 3. Any idea how old this guy is?? His ears look fine to me...they actually fold nicely. A lot of times natural-eared Boxers have a tendancy to develope 'flying nun' ears if the ears aren't taped and trained at a young age to lay properly. My boy has beautiful natural ears, but my girl ended up with rose ears that fly every which way....
![]() As far as nose color...there should be no pink on the nostrils. I do believe that is considered a fault. Is she planning on showing him?? |

i think he has a lot of growing to do - right now his face isnt very full. the muzzle itself doesnt appear to be a fault - though the lack of pigmentation on the nose is.

I'm positive he's a puppy. I think around 10 months...So that leaves a lot of filling out. But, I don't know, maybe it's just because he's so slender. My friend's father breeds Boxers and they're so muscular and broad and they *look* powerful. With the Boxer above, it just seems like something is missing...
Oh, I have no problem with his ears. I was 99.9% sure that wasn't the reason why he looked 'different' to me. Maybe it's the placement of his eyes? I haven't looked into the AKC standard too closely as it was so detailed and I was in a hurry Lemme go find a side view... |

Well, one thing that may make his face look a little odd to you is that the black part of his mask is very faint and doesn't really extend over his eyes much. Makes his face look narrower....just a thought.

Ahh, here's why his muzzle looks so curved to me: It drops down, then goes out and slightly up. So I guess it's not the muzzle that's the weird thing, but maybe the placement of the eyes??? Or maybe it's just the pigmentation. I always thought his muzzle looked slightly pushed over to one side...?
Clicky Muzzle from an angle Clicky Actually, he looks pretty normal in the above piccies, but the first one in my first post keeps making me think twice. Hmmm. |

It might be just the angle but he *does* look a little 'dish-faced' in those profile pics...I dunno. It really makes no difference I guess if he's a pet...he's still a cutie

Yeah, his nose may be a tad too smashed but it's supposed to have an up curve (slightly)...His chest deosn't look very wide/thick but with age he may widen...lol...He needs to veg out on the couch a bit maybe..hehe

So, he just needs a lot of growing to do, huh? DarknessDivine, that Boxer in your avatar is simply breathtaking! I love the coloring and it looks so majestic and intelligent. Those eyes...*sighs*...

Sorry I am a bit late jumping in. What jumps out the most IMO is that this dog has a weak mask. Having a weak mask makes a boxer look atypical. The ideal mask should cover the muzzle completely and extend around the eyes like glasses. Also the nose should be solid black with no pink.
