Dang! That woman is an idiot. The dog didn't know her yet so he didn't want to be held by her. Thank God the dog wasn't killed.

My rescue lady said that there was a woman who came to adopte my Boo (min pin) but didn't like how standoffish he was. Boo is like a lot of dogs who need to warm up to strangers. After 24 hours he became a lapdog and is keeping me warm in our 3 degree icebox weather right now. She missed out on a great dog.

I wish people knew that it takes a while for dogs to warm up to you. It would really save a lot of heartache for many people. I work in a kennel part time, and you learn extreamly quick that not all dogs love you. Just recentally there was a GSD and a Chow back boarding in the kennels. I would walk about doing my various other duties (washing dishes, doing laundry, cleaning runs, etc., etc.) and every time I made a noise, the Chow and GSD (there were from the same family and in the same kennel) would bark like they were going to eat me. They weren't wagging their tails and when they were barking, they were snarling. I was thinking, "Great. More pain in the butt dogs that I have to deal with." When I went to get them out of their kennels for their fifteen minute run/playtime, I just walked up slowly, turned my body, avoided eye contact, squatted down, and let them sniff me. Once they met me, they were perfectally fine. The GSD especially was a big lover girl; she'd come up to me and lean against me waiting for me to pet her.
If you don't give those kind of dogs a chance and just answer aggression with aggression, you aren't going to get anywhere.

Roman, that lady sounds like an idiot. Apparently she just wants a status symbol, not a companion. She'd probably be one to keep the dog in the garage until company comes over, and then prance around with her "fancy" purebred.

And what is even worse than people giving up their dog is when they obviously don't want the dog, but refuse to give it up. I know someone who kept a beagle in a four by four kennel with a doghouse 24/7 because they didn't want to mess with it, yet when I offered to take the dog, they wouldn't let me because they "loved it". Bull crap.

Here's one I've heard before

"we got rid of the cat because im afraid the cat will smother my new born baby in the crib, and i don't want the kids eating the cat food and stepping into their vomit whenever they throw up" apparently this cat im talking about had FIL.

Poor kitty, but a lot of parents worry about the cat smothering the baby. As for a kid eating cat or dog food- it wouldn't be the end of the world and it's better than eating dirt

Eeww! My cat decided to throw up a furball the other morning on the floor near my side of the bed and I stepped on it. Yuck!

True...it'd probably be more nutritious than the crap a lot of parents feed their kids nowdays. LOL

LOL So true. After I found out how Mcdonald's Chicken Nuggets are made, I told my friend, "Dang, my dogs eat better than I do! I won't buy them food with Chicken by-products in it". So you never know...dog food may be better for you than McDonalds! lol

Back in the earl 90's I was on the Board of Directors of the Cheyenne Animal Shelter, and we had a woman bring in her 2 (registered) apricot tea cup poodles, because she had redecorated, and they no longer went with her color scheme. Don't people just blow your mind? And scarily, these people, who shouldn't be allowed custody of a potted plant, are also raising children.
(Not to mention that was probably $1200 worth of dogs.)

LOL. Clever Cassiepeia!! Good thinking! Personally, I went with a black dog....still goes with everything, but easier to keep clean.

Oh, you know what..you're right! I think I'll get rid of Jesse and find myself a black Chihuahua instead. Hmmm...the hairs would go with my clothes too since they tend to be darker in colour.

How much I HATE these excuses, it's horrible they'll put a dog out with no thought in mind. The thing that bugs me the most is when they need to "get rid of" their dog, some people will actually add "could be a good breeder"..UGH that irks me so much !!
I've seen ads like this in our paper more then once. It really bugs me how some people are.
I agree. that one irritates me the most. Why not find place you could take your dog. i have moved a few times, I will not move until I find a place where my dog is allowed. Like you said, would they move without their kids??
