Tommy & Jake, those two guys are sooo cute!
I have to tell you (and sorry, I dont mean to hyjack the post, only this one posting, i swear!)...
My little 7 month old neice is in the hospital right now (roto-virus? ...d*mn day-care) and when we were visiting yesterday, this woman came in with the cutest most well behaved and sweet tempered sheltie therapy dog. What a huge bonus that was for little MacKenzie! She looooves dogs and she wasn't cranky or carrying on. She was just "I'm sick and I know I'm sick" attitude about her. But that little dog made her so happy! She was smiling and laughing. Its was definately nice for my brother and his wife to see their baby happy and smiling (where she hadn't in days). So I now have a special place in my heart for shelties now! Very cute dogs~

**warning**website Listed Is Graphic**

That's so sad...

I agree with BXRchic... different people who come from different cultures are going to disagree with practices. I don't think that it is right at all, BUT I would like to post a website so everyone can get a little background info on that stuff. As Gaddy said, I TOO am NOT against any oriental at all, but I surely do not agree with their practices. I do not wish to offend anyone, so please don't take this to heart.

**WARNING**EXTREMELY**GRAPHIC**
It's Their Destiny

This website is not for the feint of heart... But they give some background info on the practice that is done. I want to be sure that everyone has a fair warning of the site...

Quote:
He took a short break, looking at the dog and obseving the dog's dying condition. He waited a few minutes and proceeded to repeat these actions three more times over the next thirty minutes. I asked the man why are you killing the dog so painfully, so cruelly? Whey can't you kill him quickly?

He thought I was someone who enjoyed dog meat. He smiled at me and proudly told me, 'Dogs should take a long time to be killed, taht way it tates better.'

After reading the above website, I believe it said that the adrenaline rushes through the dogs body, giving it a better taste, as well as beating the dog tenderizes the 'meat'.

Someone had take this subject on another forum a little to seriously, and went off because I was "judging another ones culture", and that the Koreans did not eat dog meat at all and whoever posted the website was sadly mistaken. Well after much research, I found about 3 different websites that stated that the Koreans ate dog meat. Even a man stationed in Korea, made a video explaining of what he sees everyday... how he sees big truck loads of dead dog bodies taken to markets, and even witnessed 2 men beating a dog.

While it is another ones culture, and I'm sure there are quite a few incidents here, I do not agree with the practice. I find it cruel, inhumane, and sickening. That is JMO, and I am sure that others find our practices weird as well... we all have our opinions, and should express them freely as long as no one degrades another one person.

While I do not condone the practice of beating an animal before death, who are we to say that people of other cultures do not have the right to eat the meat of a dog or cat? Its a very ignorant and arrogant position to take when the United States kills enough cows and chickens each day to bathe the state of Colorado in blood.

I support one's disgust with the practice of beating and torturing the dog, and while I see it disgusting to eat dog meat personally, I am not going to tell another culture to stop a practice just because I don't agree with it. If we did that, we would have to stop eating cow meat because India views then as sacred.

If we are so sickened by eating dog meat, why no the meat of a cow, lamb, or chicken? The meat is the same...carbon compounds, etc.

I know some VERY nice Arabic people, and on 9/11 their son was told at school that he should be killed.

I do agree that these people should be punished...put in jail or something though that obviously would not be as bad as a dose of their own medicine. I'm not able to torture and animal, much less a human. We are all living creatures and deserve to be respected by others.
Ditto. (Except the part about knowing some Arabic people.

It saddens me that people eat dogs and cats. I can't change that though. The biggest reason I'm againts the practice is because they torture the dogs and cats before killing them instead of killing them humanly. They take an innocent animal that can't fight back, and torture it just so the meat 'supposably' tatse better.
I mean, even wolves don't sit there and break the legs one at a time off of a moose that is still living over a period of 30 minutes just to watch the moose suffer and because the meat will taste better if they do. (And a difference is Wolves have to kill for food. What is making people kill these animals so inhumanly? Money and because the meat is 'supposed' to bring them good health.)

I can't believe people (wether they be American, Aisan, African American, British, Chinese etc.) can stand abusing animals without being disturbed inwardly. I can barely stand seeing Rose kill a Rabbit without feel saddened. Even seeing a mouse in a mouse trap kind of makes me feel a little bit sad. It just saddens me that there are so many cruel people out there that can stand hurting a dog or cat just for pleasure or profit.

P.S. I'm not a Vegitairian. If I don't know the animal I'm eating personally, I'm ok. I mean, if we had cows and we butchered them, I couldn't stand eating the meat from them. I don't think I could live without meat. (exspecialy Bacon and Chicken! lol)

I don't eat meat but can say that my sister who was stationed in Korea ate dog meat...she did not know what it was and she complimented the chef on the food and was then told by a friend of hers that it was dog...She said she felt bad but to be honest that it tasted good.
Thing is people from different cultures eat differently then others, my mom was raised poorly, they ate squirell and pigs feet and sorts of things I think is gross but hey they like it. My point is it's what they eat, and while we may not like it millions of chickens/turkies and such are killed in manners that could go along with those described above.
And I don't know about you all but if you've ever seen a cat kill something to eat, they will kill it slowly...as in mice...they will smack it around and play with it half alive b4 they kill it..It's gross but it's how they do it...

Icey--the song that is played on the website you posted says, "I didn't ask you to take me from here, I didn't ask to be broken. I didn't ask you to stroke my hair. Treat me like a worthless token. But my skin is thick and my miiind is strong. I am built like my father was. I've done nothing wrong. So freeeee me. I just want to feel what life should be. I just want enough space to turn around and face the truth. So freee me. When are you gonna realize. You're just wrong. You can't even think for yourself. Can't even make up your mind. So my minds' a jail. And I hate the whole *** dam human race. What the hell do you want from me. Kill me if you just don't know. Or freeee me. I just wanna feel what life should be. I just want enough space to turn around. 'Cause you're all thought. And maybe some day you treat me like you."

That song is so darn sad.....it makes you realize that animals really do have feeling and really do think about things....and I'm sure that is what they'd say plain and clear to those IDIOTS who are killing them if they could......the truth is........"I've done nothing wrong."

That is awful, I watched a show similar to this. They used them for their fur and would tie them up and pull out a leg and start cuttin the main atery and skinning the dog alive. The cats were hung while still alive. I believe they also used them for meat after.

I agree if your gonna eat them fine but at least kill the humanely, no need for any animal to suffer before their death.

Yeah, that side is really sad... I never noticed the song, but thanks for posting that. I agree 100% that they would probably say those words...

I wouldn't want to go to Korea either if they had dogs laying out in the market That would probably be the only reason I wouldn't want to go... although like I said, I respect another one's culture, but I don't find it right to treat an animal the way they do before death.

Hm, I'm not sure if it was on the site or not, but I remember that when they sell live dogs in markets, they will break their legs and tie them up and then shove a can over its mouth

Yes the Koreans also eat cat. They had a section on there for the cats. They have very large pots of water that contain different herbs and spices.. they boil the cats alive, and shove them back in when they trie to crawl out.

I wouldn't tell anyone to stop a practice that is performed in their culture... I agree with Ritz, as long as I don't know the animal personally, I'll eat it. But I only eat cow, chicken, fish, and pig (ham pork etc). Anything else is a 'hey-no-way' for me! My mom's friend teases me and tells me the story about how him and his friends used to hunt for deer, and they ate the meat. He always says he ate Bambi I yell at him when he says that...

When we went to canada (canadians you can help me here maybe) we went to a section of town known as china town and there were ducks and pigs strung up in the window of a lot of chinese places. Now, I'm no vegetarian and I'm okay with pork and I love duck, but even seeing that kinda makes me sad (not sad enough to stop eating meat, but nonetheless... sad in a way). I think it was when we were in Toronto. There's also this awesome Chinese bakery that has the most amazing pastries stuffed with meats ( ???what kind, now that i think of it??? ) and cheeses and all kinds of good stuff.

I really liked Toronto! We stayed at The Grande (it was really a nice hotel!)
I think that we should schedule another trip up soon (but I want to find a dog-friendly hotel so that we can take Kaida and walk her on the streets of Toronto! We saw TONS of people walking thier dogs when we were there!
Cool Museum too!
