"The man dragged the dog for about twenty meters and tied him to a post. The dog was screamin in pain. The man used his two hands to pull hte dog's tail with all his streangth, causeing the dog to be choked, chrushing his backbone.

Using all his streangth he pulled the dog by his left leg. Next he diid the same with hte right leg. While the dog was still alive, he was tearing his body apart. THe dog was moaning with horrible pain.

He took a short break, looking at the dog and obseving the dog's dying condition. He waited a few minutes and proceeded to repeat these actions three more times over the next thirty minutes. I asked the man why are you killing the dog so painfully, so cruelly? Whey can't you kill him quickly?

He thought I was someone who enjoyed dog meat. He smiled at me and proudly told me, 'Dogs should take a long time to be killed, taht way it tates better.'

My heart was aching, I couldn't breathe from the shock. I ran back to my Inn, my face covered in sweat and tears. I cried, ' White dog, I wish you peace in heaven. The man whol kiilled you is so cruel, how can he be part of our Korean people? Someday the butcher will kie, I believe that he will die just like you, with pain.'

I am writing you today to not only share the above letter with you, but to ask for your help in ending this horrific travesty.

Tragically, nearly two million South Korean dogs and cats are slowly strangled or bludgeoned to death each year before they are boiled, cut up and eaten.

This horrific mistreatment of innocent animals goes on because Korean autorities are turning their backs to the dog and cat meat treade even though Korean law forbids the sale and consumption of dog and cat meat........even though the country's Animal Protection Law considers dogs and cats to be companion animals.

Unfortunaltely, with the unspoken accpteance of the government, unscrupulous people are promoting the myth that eating severly mistreated dogs and cats increases male sexual prowess and general health. They bribe the government officials, intimidate animal welfare compaigners and induces newspapers to extol the "virtues" of dog and cat meat. [quote]


This letter goes on for another page and a half, but at the end it asks for our help. Here is their website, www.idausa.org.

I don't know about you, but reading that caused me to cry. How anyone can be so ruthless is beyond me. Please, try to help save these dogs and cats.



(And the cats often go through worse torture than the dogs. Some of that cats are boiled alive and liquified. ........)

Exactly. When I was reading the letter, I was in our van and my mom was driving me and my brother to piano lessons, and I was listening to my brothers walkman. I was so mad I took out the Avril Lavigne CD I was listening to because the music wasn't helping my mood any (because the lyrics were going, 'So much for my happy ending' which made me think of the dogs). So then I put in a LinKin Park CD so I could listen to some screaming because I couldn't scream at the moment. So I played LinKin Park blasting loud, trying to keep from crying.

OMG that's soooo bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How could anyone in their right mind do that without even flinching at the animal's pain???????? If anyone even THINKS about hurting my dog I'd nail them one quicker than they could change their mind!!!!

It's sad to know that there are so many heartless people out there....you oughtta bet that if I ever saw someone torturing an animal they'd be dealing with MEAN GADDY!! I'd like to see if they'd like a dose of their own medicine.

Ughhh....Sadly enough, in some parts of the world that is an accepted practice. Dogs and cats are nothing more than livestock, and they believe the more painful and prolonged the death, the better the meat......their 'reasoning' is that the endorphins released during the torture makes the meat taste sweeter and more tender. I couldn't imagine visiting a country where this happens. I couldn't handle it.

Here is something else it says in the letter:

Illegal and unsanitart dog farms are hidden away in hte countryside where 'breeders' raise their stock for the butchers. 30% are stolen from families who love them. The rest are homeless dogs, captured by butchrs and sold in open markets. Dogs are electrocuted, strangled, or bludgeoned to death. THe dirty industry is proliferated by the myth that dog meat is healthy.

Cats are alos consumed in Korea. While many Koreans regard dogs as companions, cats are often looked upon as pests and thus suffer worse cruelty. Companions and strays alike may be killed by being placed in sacks and pounded agianst the ground. Sometimes, while still alive, cats are thrown into large pots of boiling water and cooked until liquified into "cat juice", which dealers claim will cure rheumtism.

"I asked about the eating of dogs and was told over and over agian that it didn't happen anymore. You can imagine my shock and horror upon getting lost in one of the huge markets in downtown Taegu. I looked down and saw the head of a dog with its legs stuffed in its mouth. I was limbs that were skinned. Everywhere I turned there were dogs in cages. THe smell was overwhelming. THat market, that sweltering hot August day, was what I envisioned hell to be like."

Along with that it had pictures of dogs stuffed in cages stacked on top of one another (the dogs and the cages) and a dead dog laying like it had been mummified. Those pictures made WOC and other Puppymills seem like th best of Heaven.

Before I say what I am going to say, let me assure you that I am NOT against oriental people who respect animals in ANY WAY AT ALL.

The Chinese (not all) believe that tigers used in medicine will heal those that are ill because they are strong, muscular animals. This puts tigers on the endangered list....they are used in lots of Chinese medicines.

And let me say again: I AM NOT AGAINST THE CHINESE, JAPANESE, KOREAN, AFRICANS, BRITISH, GERMAN, FRENCH, SWEDISH, RUSSIAN.....I AM NOT against ANYONE that RESPECTS ANIMALS!!!

Yer i agree but i still think anyone who hurts a living animal is weak and has to be punished!!Coz i dont think a defence less animal coulod even fight back!!!Which just makes me very very mad at those people who treat porr animals with no respect at all!!!

I am not prejudice.....it doesn't matter to me if someone looks different than me, has a different religion than me, etc.. I am a Christian; it doesn't matter to me if someone is muslim or lutheran. My religion may be different than theirs and I may not agree with things in their religion, but I have no right to look down at them in any way because they believe diffrent things than I. I know some VERY nice Arabic people, and on 9/11 their son was told at school that he should be killed.

I do agree that these people should be punished...put in jail or something though that obviously would not be as bad as a dose of their own medicine. I'm not able to torture and animal, much less a human. We are all living creatures and deserve to be respected by others.

I'm not sure that it's the chinese (but definately of an Asian-origin), but they also use Tiger Penis as an aphrodesiac. It's amputated and supposedly dehydrated. It's also used in soups (as is bull penis).


I dont know... it saddens me that this happens to dogs and cats and I don't think that its right, but from one culture to another there's almost always a cultural lag or gap and just like we dont understand people eating dogs and cats, I'm sure that people in India are appalled by us eating Cows! ("how could we, they're so sacred and holy" they would say.)
There are people out there that are appalled by Turtle Soup, Alligator meat, snake meat, Venison, etc.
So who's to say which meat isn't for eating and which meat is?
Again, I think that its sick that they eat dogs and cats, but someone (on animal planet on a pet story) had a few pigs as pets, wouldnt they be appalled by pork?

Either way... Vegetarians everywhere are P*SSED!

As long as its not going on here (which I have a feeling that it is all too often), what can we really say?
