People like that annoy me... ugh... that's one thing I dislike about the smaller dogs. They are allowed to get away with things that a big dog would get bashed for. One example is my cousins dogs. They have a papillon (pet store) and a pomeranian (from a friend). Those dogs are so misbehaved. They sit up on the couch with you RIGHT up next to a tray if you're eating, they get up on the table, and sniff around and lick stuff off of the table. They're yappy... the pom gets "moody" and will growl and attack your hand if you try to pick her up when she doesn't want to, OR when you try to take something out of her mouth, such as a napkin. And they laugh and think it's cute.. ugh, I hate that soo much. I think that's why I have always had a 'bad view' of little dogs. I've never really liked them... No offense though to any small breed dog owners. I'm sure there are plenty of well behaved little guys out there, I just have yet to meet one I find as a good, well behaved, companion dog. I get the same reaction. I'll be out walking Sheiba and Denali, and people will comment.. "Oh they're so beautiful!" then I come back and get Bub... well I come back around "Another one?! You've got 3?!" I just say "Yep, and they're all spoiled rotten" Most people will approach my girls, but I have to warn them that Denali jumps and gives kisses. She loves little kids. I try to keep her down as best I can, but she jumps up when I'm not looking Anyhow, people see Sarge and they steer clear, then they become nervous so so Sarge senses it and feeds off of that to intimidate them. He'll put his hears up and start "huffing", and he stares at them as they walk by, then he has to pee on the nearest vertical object LOL But we allow our dogs on the couches, bed, and anywhere in the house besides in the kitchen and in my brothers room. The only one we have a problem with when there's food is Sheiba, which is my dad's fault cause he lets her sit up on the couch with him. She doesn't stick her nose in his plate, but she sets her head on his lap and watches him eat. My brother doesn't tolerate begging at all. He MAKES them lay down, and as soon as they seem him walk out of his room and they're begging, they immediately hit the floor like there's a bomb comming! LOL Sorry this is so long, but that's one thing I can't stand, is how people spoil little dogs to the point of stupidity. They don't train them and the reason is because they think "oh it's a little dog, it won't be that bad if it were a big dog" and they carry them in purses, like it has been mentioned.. well um hello they do have legs and God gave them a purpose... if they were untended to be carried like a purse they wouldn't have legs, they'd have an extra long tail that curled up to be placed over the shoulder I've had people say that Sarge is huge. He's only 75-80 pounds. He's not that tall at all.. Denali is about the same size as him and she's only 50 pounds (which is why most people think she's a male and they ask "Are they brother and sister?"). People think that owning more than one big dog is a chore, and it's really not. As long as you don't get out of hand with the number, you spay/neuter, and properly train them and socialize them it's no different than 2 or 3 dogs. But thats JMO... such as Crossfire... with all of her little Sourmugs, people may think she's crazy but I'm sure all of hers behave better than most dogs I'm done ranting now LOLOL |

Little dogs have been ruined... either physically or through a bad reputation. It's sad, because I've known (and currently know) many great small dogs (with fantastic owners... do the math, eh?). I always hated chihuahua's until I went to the RSPCA one day looking for a poodle or poodle mix and found my little Jesse. He was so skinny I could see his back bone and hips, but he was the sweetest, kindest little ball of hair I'd met. I fell in love straight away. I love chihuahua's now (although I prefer big dogs.. molosser particularly) and don't plan on adopting another small dog (unless it's a miniature poodle or an aussie bulldog although they're not really that small LOL), and hate what they've been made into, because of people like these two stupid women from the original post.
Perhaps we small dog owners should start up a group to help promote responsible ownership, training and socialisation of the small breeds. Help restore their good reputation as fantastic companions. Hmmm.... or perhaps we could campaign Oprah to do a special on them. LOL j/k Cass. |

Yup I agree, small dog have been ruined. At the dog park there are 3 small dogs (a yorkie, poodle, and pom) all owned by the same person who are such terrors!!!! If kids are running around they are the first to be nipping at the kids heels and they bite HARD, enough to draw blood sometimes!!! When "playing" with other dogs they will latch on and not let go. If anyone tries to pet them or pick them up they bite, even their owner has a hard time with them! The worst part is when they try to bite her for trying to put their leash on to take them home she just laughs it off and says "guess they don't want to come home yet". The lil guys are so totally alpha!!! It's so bad....If a big dog were like that, it'd get euthanized for being "dangerous to the public"!!!!

It's the way they're handled. Small dogs aren't any different than large ones. My Chihuahuas are just as sweet and well socialized as my Doberman and Lab. I think lots of people get little "cute" dogs and don't know a thing about it and spoil them to the point of their taking over and ruling the roost. That's what makes them nasty...that and not socializing them enough. It's a shame about their reputation. I know....I use to think that too....that most little dogs were snappy, irritating little brats, but it doesn't have to be that way.

I like Jack Russels better than I do Westies, Yorkies, Chihuahuas, and Golden Retreivers just because I've had bad experiences with all of the above breeds but that Jack Russel was a very good dog! All breeds, whether a good represinitive or a bad one, leave lasting impressions. I guess it is just up to people to make sure there are no bad represenitives and if there are, to notice all of the good ones too. |

I hate people. This is off topic but it kinda relates. My little sister is getting a Min Pin next week. (well its half min pin we just found out) So, she asked me to take her to a petshop to look for a crate and dishes for him. I did. I never pass up the chance to go pet shopping!! lol. I just moved to NC and had never been to this pet shop so we took our time looking around. Even checked out the aquariums, bird cages, hamsters, kittens, and puppies. I fell in love with a beautiful lab/aust. shep. mix. he was beautiful. We were getting ready to check out and a woman asked to see a puppy next to the lab mix. A girl that was working there brought the pup out. As soon as the woman walked up to him, he immediately started growling, and snapping at her. The girl holding him had all she could do to hold on to him and keep herself from being bitten. In my opinion, that shows poor socialization, among other things. Do they ever expect anyone to adopt that puppy??

RedHotDobe--Before I say what I am going to say, let me tell you that I have never met a Dobie in dog.
I have always thought of Dobermans as large dogs (not XL or XXL). Thing is that I've never thought of them as "mean"....I've always thought that they are good-looking though, LOL. I hope to meet a Dobe some day though the most "popular" dogs here are Labs (usually yellow or black) and peke/poodle mixes plus Goldens. I was so excited when I actually saw that someone around here has a PUREBRED Pekingese!! I saw it in it's yard, wagging it's little tail and yapping at me....(I could barely hear the little thing)....I think lots of people view little dogs as babies that can't do anything on their own. I have no problem with people babying their pooch (hey, I do it to my three and they're OKIE DOKIE), or carrying it around in a bag etc., but I do have problems with viewing dogs (especially small ones) as accesories. IMO accesories are hair scrunchies, bracelets, hats, belts, bags, earrings, necklaces, or the $99.99 pair of shoes at the local shoe store (BTW I am not the kind of person who uses accesories often other than a rubber band). I imagine it'd be easier to sneak your Chihuahua into the grocery store in a bag than it would be to have him walk in and be all, "Hey, yeah he's a dog and I know you don't want dogs in here...." While I think little fluffy dogs are "cute" and all that I have to say I prefer larger dogs. I have never owned a small dog, all of my girls are 50-60 pounds, just large enough to be scary to some yet small enough for me to pick up and put in the car. |

My Grandma has a Mini Schnauzer named Molly. I know you see some Schnauzers out there, not a lot but still some, that are babied and pamperd like it doesn't have a mind of its own. Grandma doesn't do that to Molly! lol Grandma makes her mind and she doesn't let her get away with stuff that she isn't supposed to do. (Unlike some people who go, "Oh, its ok. It is a cute small little dog so it can snap if it wants to. It just thinks it is a big macho doggy!*says in a baby voice*") Molly doesn't act like a spoiled little princess that is used to getting its way. She acts like a normal dog.
Gaddy- I like that size rang of dogs too. (Although really big dogs are cool as well.) Also, I just read in your siggy that your fav. character off of Lost is Charlie. He is my fav. too!! !!! lol I also like Hurley. (The big fat guy, if I didn't get his name right.) And I'm hoping that the guy that nobody likes (can't remeber his name....that 'evil' guy) will become nice and start to be friendly in the end. Anyways, back on topic! lol |

. I loved Hurley in the first episode, when the Korean man tried to get him to eat what he was offering. Hurley went, "Eat that? Oh, no, no man!" Yes the "evil man" is Sawyer....though in a previous episode if I remember correctly he said that that was NOT his real name. |

LOL I didn't see the first couple of episodes, but I love watching it now! The first episode I watched was when Charlie got off of his drugs. Then I watched the next episode and now I'm addicted! I don't watch to much TV either but that is the one show I love to watch! lol
Ya, I think he did say that Sawyer wasn't his name. Wonder what his real name is..... Ok, I think we were getting a little bit off of the topic so.........back on the subject! lol ![]() |

![]() To go back on subject (lol) I agree with Gaddy. There is nothing wrong with babying and spoiling your dog rotten, but when they become and accessory and not a pet, that's when there's a problem. I'm not much of a small dog person, although I love love love Chinese Cresteds, Boston Terriers, and Frenchie faces! I'll probably own something small(ish)er than a Dobe one day, most likely a Bulldog, but toy/small breeds aren't for me. I like the big dogs who can jump into your bed in the morning, and then paw punch you and squish you, and then look out your window and bark at the wind. (Not that I'm referencing anyone specific )As a present to yourself, I think you should meet a Dobe Gaddy. ![]() |
