Water Bottles - What is the Attraction?
I don't get it. I got my dogs the smaller of these for their crates.
![]() Now they prefer to lick at these bottles instead of drinking from a dish or from one of the water-cooler type dispensers. They only get drops of water out of the bottles instead of as much as they can lap in the bowls so what is the attraction? |

I read somewhere about dogs having limited taste buds so they prefer moving water to still water (which is apparently why some of them like to paw in their water bowls). Not sure how accurate this is though but it could be why they prefer to use the ones on their crates

I understand they love those little "doggie fountains" too. I just can't see springing that much money for something that will need filter changes, etc, just to entertain my dogs. LOL Bobbie sticks her face into the bowl, covering the muzzle, anyway. That's her entertainment
![]() And she would rather drink out of my water bottle (that I pour in a stream for her to lap from) than a water bowl at the park or on walks. |

Now that does make a lot of sense. I remember pouring water into my GSD bowl and he preferred to drink it from the stream over drinking it in the bowl.
ITA w/wolf. I'd bet they'd like the fountain but I'm not feeling the expense. The $9 bottles are working just fine. |
