warning!

Calcium Chloride pellets in Ice Melt BURN DOGS.

We had "Qik Joe Ice Melt" and all 3 of our dogs had this problem.

Its formulated to heat through Ice to melt it, well it also heats dog.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kino steps in it then whines and lifts his legs funny like it hurts to step on it, cuz it does!

Runt came running in the house on her front legs, she wouldnt step on her hind legs, we thought she broke one of them, then we realized she had it all over her back legs and as soon as we got it all off she was fine again...

Shredder walked funny over it.

Does it have a warning on it? If not I would call the company and complain!

no it doesnt have a warning, we are calling them right now.

the compay does have a product for pets, but its NOT the calcium chloride version, Im assuming other brands use Calcium Chloride also, so be carefull.

Petsmart sells a brand of "salt" (snow melt product) that is supposed to be forumuled so its safe for animals feet.
its an aqua color in a big plastic jug.
we bought some last summer for kaida and lucky. worked only "okay" but it also stripped the paint off of our deck :shiver:

BXRchick do you know what that was called? Id rather not buy that brand either...

I think we may end up just sticking to real rock salt, my parents use it and their dog has never had a problem... well just wash the dogs feet off so they dont lick it up.

You can put cat litter down before the snow or ice if you have plenty of warning. It will help to keep it from forming sheets of ice. We use it and it worked wonders and it's safe for our dogs and the other animals that wonder by...
