We went to see the Manatees

Manatees gather in the warm waters of rivers and estuaries that are away from the cold waters of the Gulf of Mexico. They stay in the warmer waters most of the time and only venture out into the Gulf to feed.

They are large creatures measuring up to 10 feet long and weighing close to a ton each. But they're gentle and shy with a casual community cohabitating with all sexes and ages comfortably.

LOL this is a tail shot I managed to get. They aren't fast but the camera has to be ready at all times!

It's been 6 years since I have seen a Manatee.. It's good to seem them again, brings back some great and exciting memories.. Makes me miss Florida some times, seeing such a range of wildlife and I LOVE their zoo's lol.. Thanks !

Oh, have you been to the Lowry Park Zoo ? I'm not sure I remember where abouts it's located, but they have a Manatee exibit that is wonderful to see.. I always loved going there..

Awesome pictures! We occassionally see a manatee (and sometimes a calf) while we're out fishing. I shamefully say that a calf got hung up on my fishing line one day

I felt so horrible... I had to cut the line because him and mom were hauling butt down the channel. I didn't think they were out far enough to get snagged. Thankfully that has been the only time. I'd hate for it to happen again. But we love watching them swim through. It's funny to watch the bubbles travel atop the water, and then hear this big burst of air from a whiskery nose!

Manatees seem like gorgeous animals!

I'd love to catch a glimpse of one some day - and same goes for dugongs.
