We weren't really trying to make fun of Labs. I like them too and they aren't really 'robot' dogs. Although can't you just picture a dog (doesn't matter what breed) pulling a sleigh and you telling it to turn left and it does and runs into a tree? lol That would be tooooo funny if that really happend.
(As long as the dog wasn't hurt....lol)(On the cat subject, off of the Thrid Harry Potter movie, a character who owns a cat (her name is Hermione) says, 'You do realize that the Eygptions worshiped cats.' and the guy she is talking to (Ron) says, 'Yah, along with the dung beatle!' LOL I thought that was pretty funny too......I have nothing agianst cats, but it is fun to make fun of them somtimes!!! lol ) |

Oh, I know you weren't meaning anything by that. I'm just feeling extra emotional lately because my beloved Bonnie is, in essence in the process of dying. I'm very sad about this. Plus, not only is my dog dying, by brother is also due to a brain tumor and I'm just having a kind of rotten time. So, don't you worry about what you said. It is funny indeed to imagine that. Labs are indeed one of the most willing to please breeds.
And I think cats are very interesting. I often imagine what they're thinking when they're sitting there kind of glaring at everyone. I think they know something we don't. LOL. |

I'd feel mad if my Blackie was dying and somebody started joking around about Lab/Rottie mixes.....On a lighter note, Rush was staring at me a couple of days ago and he was giving me the weirdest freakiest look ever! lol I was like, 'JeanAnne!! He is scary!!! (I was really hyper because I had sat still for to long)' and then I hid behind a sofa pillow. lol JeanAnne was like, 'Ya he is freaky! What do you think he is thinking?' and I said, 'He is thinking, that person over there hiding behind the pillow is crazy. Why do I live in this house?!?' lol (Actually his problem was, come to find out later, that his mouth was hurting him. Don't know what was up, but he is all better now. I had noticed that he was holding his mouth kinda funny so I went to cheak his mouth and he backed away from me and then when he walked past me he hissed at me. I was like, 'Did you just hiss at me?!' He ignored me, though. Sometimes you just have to wonder what they would say if only they could talk. ) |

Thanks Ritz,
I didn't feel one bit mad about the Lab thing. I just felt protective. LOL. Like wrapping my arms around my Bonnie. And I'm glad your cat is OK. What do you suppose was wrong? Could he have had an ouchy in his mouth? Oh yes....sometimes I do wish I knew what they were thinking. (other times.....I'm glad I don't) LOL. Thanks for writing and for your kind words. |

I really don't know what was wrong with him. All I know was that he was holding his mouth funny and wasn't acting like himself. He is 11yrs old so maybe he had a loosed tooth or something?
LOL Yah, sometimes you are pretty glad you don't know what they are thinking.....lol I'm sure half of the time Rush would be saying, "You foolish mortals don't know anything. You keep a bird in a cage, fattening her up, but you never eat her! And why is it you bring that dumb brown dog into my house and then bring her right up next to me? And that two year old that came over in Oct? (An Aunt came over with her little boy.) Why did you let him pet me? He messed up my fur and he was really load. And why is it even when I order you to give me my canned catfood you just say, 'Oh, go eat your dry food like a real cat.' unstead of getting it for me pronto?" lol |

Oh Carrie, I'm so sorry about Bonnie and your brother. I will be praying for you.
I too am a Lab lover . I know my girl wouldn't run into a tree....she'd play with it. I truly believe Labs act dumb for attention. My girl pretends to be stupid and gets a bunch of treats and smooches for it, LOL (she gets this when she's smart, too). BTW, I actually know a dog that ran into a tree. A former friend of mine and my sister had a Boxer (I believe) mix. We found that she had a cast on her leg one day because she ran into a tree in their yard. If I'm remembering correctly she ran into a tree again and broke her other leg. We thought that was pretty hilarious but still felt bad for Millie. |

O.M. Goodness! That's terrible! Two broken legs! It sounds funny now, but it sure wasn't then.I had a young horse that, when we were on a trail walking along, would turn her head and look behind her to see something better. We'd be approaching something and I'd say, "Brisa!!!! watch where you're going." LOL. She was just like a toddler who has gotten the hang of running pretty well and goes running across the living room looking behind him, running into the coffee table. Anyway, thank you for your prayers. Bless your heart. It is a hard time. |

Oh yeah...don't you just know it? They act dumb for a reason. LOL. Actually, I think they are one of the most happy go lucky, easy going, everything and everyone is good kind of dogs there are. I'm glad you are so lucky like I to have such a dog.

Yep, I'm gald the people who found Blackie couldn't keep him!! Somebody who works with Dad had found Blackie when he was a pup just wandering around and they took him in and put up flyers (Blackie had a colar on) to see if he was anybodies lost pup.
I week had past or so and nobody had called them asking about him and they couldn't keep him because they worked and didn't have time for a puppy. (Plus they had 3 retired racing Greyhounds that weren't to fond of a him.) So they called us up because they new we were looking for a dog (at pre-trianed GSDs actually) so we went over and looked at him and we just had to have him!! ![]() Quote:

I have very fond memories of labradors as well (I don't want anyone to get me wrong - I love working with northern breeds, but I'm certainly not in the dark as to the intelligence of labradors). Pesca and I may as well have been sisters - it was I that chose her from the litter (I was assisting my grandparents in the puppy selection process) and it was she, in turn, that taught me about living with dogs (there's only so much you can learn from books - the rest is experience). I'm reminded of Albert Payson Terhune describing his Lad, saying that you could see the dog's soul in his eyes. That was the kind of dog Pesca was.
She went into paroxysms of joy upon hearing that I would be coming to visit (and would then wait by the window), was a *beyond* cunning food thief, learned to track me and my twin sister, and was, just in general, a joy to be around. Everything was an adventure to her - all she asked was to be included. She died of cancer this past year. I was unable to visit her prior to her death, and have thus never really felt closure. I miss her every time I think of her (I have a lump in my throat just now) - I don't think I could miss her any more if she had been my own pet. Best wishes and thoughts being sent your way, Carrie. |
