I'm goin' to a dog wash! Gonna be washin' Greys! *PICTURES!*
The Greyhound group I'm adopting from is having a "dog wash" fundraiser this weekend (where you can pay to have your Grey groomed and the money all goes to the group). I finally talked to a group rep. this week and set a tenative weekend for our home check, so she invited us to come to the dog wash. So I volunteered to help wash the doggies.
I'm so nervous (first time meeting group members, and being surrounded by Greys--I might faint!), and sooo excited! I really wanted to go because 1. It'll be really good hands-on experience with Greys, since I don't have any of that and am bringing one home ( ), and 2. They'll have FOSTERS there (aka, potential Greys for me!). It seems so overwhelming going somewhere with all these Greys (the rep. said they typically bathe about 80 dogs--plus any there not being groomed!!), I just hope I can restrain myself. I'm going to try and remember to take my camera (so my family can take pictures, heck I'll be washing. lol), so hopefully I'll have pics to share afterwards. Soooo excited!! Aiyee! Just had to share. ![]() |

Too cool! That sounds sooo exciting! You will definetly have to let us know how it went, and which "fosters" you fell in love with
Although, I'm sure you'll fall in love with them all ![]() |

Wow that's awesome, I'm so jealous and also happy for you. You've been waiting so long to add a Grey to your family.
I can't wait to see photos if you remember to take your camera. Cass. |

How exciting - sounds like you can hardly wait! Can't wait to hear how it all goes and hopefully you get to meet your future grey there!

That sounds like it will be a lot of fun, and it's a great way to show the group that you want to be involved (or are serious) about adopting a greyhoud!
Good luck with it all, I'm sure you'll have a blast! |

Swift, that was one of my thoughts with going, too. The rep. who's doing my home check is very busy, so I want to motivate her to get this home check done anyhow.
![]() I have a feeling my Grey is going to be there, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up, ya know? Like Icey said, I'll probably fall in love with all of them anyhow. ![]() I'm glad I just found out that I get to go, 'cause otherwise the wait would be unbearable. Gosh I'm so excited!! ![]() |

I also though that they must think you're looking like a good candidate for adoption - otherwise they probably wouldn't have asked for you to come along. Things happen for a reason and maybe everything is coming into place right now. And like you said, you might meet your future grey without even knowing it!

Ack, looking at the weather today I decided to check the forecast for the city the dog wash is in... Rain predicted all day! We'll see what happens.
I hope they have a back-up plan or something! |

What a bummer. I hope they've got some undercover areas or something so it can still go ahead - other than that I'll keep my fingers crossed for some sunshine for you.

I did get to go wash some Greys today! And not a drop of rain! The clouds covered the sun a couple times, and the temp. wasn't quite WARM, but everyone had a great time.
I volunteered at the brushing station, so after the Greys were bathed, dried, ears cleaned and toenails clipped they came to me for a brushing and finishing spritz (made them really shiny!). I brushed dogs for about 3 hours or so, and I wish I'd counted how many I did! Loooots. Now pictures! My dad took all these for me. (Btw, I blurred some faces for privacy. I did a really bad job, but at least they're covered. lol!)An overall view of the grooming area: ![]() Bathing station #1 (they had two of these raised tubs outside): ![]() Bathing station #2: ![]() Drying: ![]() A pen of fosters with toenail clipping and ear cleaning in the background: ![]() Resist these foster faces!! All of them but the black one had/was recovering from a broken leg. ![]() ![]() Beautiful black boy: ![]() Two cuties: ![]() Spotty baby (too cute!): ![]() Here's me brushing (all the shots dad took of me I have really bad/wierd facial expressions. My apologies! lol) ![]() The dog here with it's bum to the camera, his name was Roy, he caught my eye. ![]() ![]() Roy: ![]() I was slightly disappointed because none of the fosters really caught my heart (I sat in front of the foster pen all day, so that worked well ). Roy I made a point to remember because awhile after I was done grooming him, he came back over and stuck his head against my chest and just sat there. So we had a moment. I didn't know he was a foster until awhile later, so I didn't get to ask any questions about him. I assumed he was owned by the people because he had a fancy collar on, and most the fosters I'd seen had plainer collars on. I realized after I got home I could've been practically interviewing people (for food, grooming, product recommendations, as well as info. on individual fosters), and I totally missed my chance! I did talk to a few people about their fosters, but none could even tell me if their dog was cat safe because the circumstances they were tested under weren't very ideal I guess (end of a long day, lot of dogs had to be tested). There was one other small black boy I really liked, but I don't have even a decent picture of him. He was really sweet and affectionate. ![]() Anyway. I did meet our rep., too, and she still seemed to be stalling (I started to wonder if she doesn't like me for some reason or if it's nothing personal?). She wouldn't even talk to me for very long. Plus, then I get home and my sister informs me she has a horse event this weekend (everyone has to be home for the home check, and my sis has been waiting for this once a year event all year. *sigh*). So I don't know what'll happen. I didn't even get a chance to ask our rep. if she still thought this weekend would work. So that part of the day (and not falling in love with a particular dog) was kind of disappointing. But I really appreciated all the experience handling the dogs and just getting to be there with them, so that was neat. Funny story... This little boy was watching me pretty intently at one point while I'm grooming (I can see him out of the corner of my eye), so then he steps into my line of vision and says, "you're really good at this" with this totally earnest, adorable look on his face. He was the cutest thing! So sweet. ![]() |

Aww gorgeous greys!
It looks like heaps of fun! And how cute of the boy to say that you're good at grooming, that's really sweet.Maybe it's going to take a bit more time for you to find the one for you. I'm sure the rep didn't mean anything personal - she was probably feeling very busy and possibly a bit stressed. I really do hope that everything falls into place for you. |

Looks like you had a busy day and I'm sorry nobody really captured your attention on the day - and I hope things work out soon with the rep and your home visit. Fingers crossed for you. |
