Angry never in my life...

have i wanted to leave adoption day so bad

at first everything was going great i picked up the animals that i had to pick up and then my dad drove me to petsmart to meet the other volunteers pretty normal

then about half an hour in i was alone with the siberian huskey puppy that had been dropped off 2 days earlier he was 2 months old and didn't have his shots so i had to hold him

a bald man and his parents came and said "i want this dog...how much is he? is he trained?" so i said"he will be $250 after he gets his shots, neutered and microchipped" "i want to bring him home now!"

thats where the man crossed the line with me a 14 year old boy

so i gave him a whole lecture about siberian huskeys and how they love to walk, run and how if he isn't careful that the dog can climb the fence and dig

the man says "who cares i want him anyway" i asked him if he liked walking and she said "no i hate walking dogs"

the red flags went up right there

i really wanted to yell at him or something

so of course i had to tell some of the volunteers about it but i didn't tell my boss...yet

then thank god one of the volunteers who owns a sibe and can obiously tell the guy more about the breed and such well it didn't work

he wasn't giving up on this dog at all he goes back to me "what is the adoption process" i say "first fill out this pre-adopt agreement, then we will call you this week to set up an appoinment for a home visit"
"why the hell do you have to come to my house" by that time i already left because he was really bothering me

another person comes by to look at little nanook and thy ey say "hi i have a siberian huskey and i would love to adopt this little baby"

i was so much happier now that someone with some intellegence wanted to adopt the pup

i told my boss that this person wanted the dog and she was happy too so she had to make up a lie that me nor the other volunters knew she said that the origional owner wanted the dog

we were all going crazy because we didn't know about her lie lol

then a mini-schouzer (sp) came down and we call the guy saying that we had to give the dog back to the owner and said he can come look at the new dog we had just brought in

his mother and father were looking at the dog and agreeded to adopt it their son the evil man kept looking at the sibe and he kept saying something about steeling it if he had the chance (joking of course)

his mom said that it wasn't meant to be and she told him to look at the schnouzers face and he just kept saying but look at the puppies face (god what a dramtic soap opera)

so i took the schnouzer to an area where they can see the dog and he just kept ignoring it and kept on playing with another dog we had there not bonding with the schnouzer at all

i felt like saying are you ready for any dog? but i kept my mouth shut because i know better than to lose my temper with a guy like that

so off they went with their new dog and the new owner of the sibe came right after and we did the homevisits (not me i had to deal with some kittens)

so than i decided to tell my boss about this guy she told me that if he ever wants another dog to tell her and she will deny his request for one

1. he was in his 30's and he was getting angry because we had to do a homw visit because it is required in ny state as a shelter law

2. he didn't even play witht he poor snouzer (spelling)

3. he was really not a good pet parent and i could feel his negative energy spreading to the dogs

then one good this is that we decided to take in soem kitten that some loser dumped infront of petsmart the night befor knowing they were cloed so the kittens were luckey to be alive today they are only about 1 month old

i will post some pictures of the cats later

thanks for letting me rant about this global paw i couldn't have done it without you

You meet all kinds of people when you deal with pet adoptions. Quite frankly I don't think most to the population is normal. Must be the water.........anyway, I would have told the mad that the dog was already spoken for. What a ding-bat!

I agree calgal. I would have told him sorry this puppy is already going to its new home. You should have never came... er I mean, come a little earlier. LOL

Sorry you had to deal with such a crummy person.

I'm glad you kept that pup from being taken into a potentially very irresponsible home, who knows what could happen to that poor pup if he lived with that guy. I'm glad you found a great home for the puppy! Sorry you had to deal with an idiot like that though.

Sorry you had such a bad time with that guy. You meet all sorts don't you? Glad the Sibe pup is going to an experienced owner though.
Those poor little kittens, 4 weeks old and left all night in a box outside in the middle of winter. Perhaps the box and the fact that there was a few of them provided them with a bit of protection from the cold though. I'm glad they're ok and hope they find some good homes.

Cass.

there were 5 kittens and yesterday night was the coldest almost 8 degrees so it is a miricle that they survived

usually the people that come to adopt are pretty experienced and know the proceedure but every so often i deal with morons like him

one other thing that happend was that one volunteer was attacked by a shelter dog

he has a very high food/toy agression problem but one thing i think went wrong was the fact that she was EATING food and GIVING it to the dog so his agression triggered him to attack her hand

we usually don't eat around the dogs but this volunteer has only been there for 3 weeks so i guess she didn't listen when we say NO FOOD but she is doing ok and her hand is healing up i think

Some people just don't really think about things do they? What sort of person thinks a 2 month old pup is going to be trained already LOL!! Glad he didn't get to take any of the dogs home with him - sounds like they wouldn't have much of a life.

ughhh! Don't get discouraged though, your doing a wonderful thing. One question..why couldn't you just deny that moron right then and there? You asked him perfectly legitimate questions , like walking the dog..and he said he hates to walk them. So why couldn't you just say I'm sorry but we don't believe based on what you just told us that this dog or any dog would get the required exercise to keep them happy and healthy?

i would have loved to deny him right there but we have to give everyone a chance and his home visit was ok so the snouzer is atr his house

although i don't think he will have it for much longer as that snouzer wasn't trained/ house trained at all so who knows?

Question ?

Do you mean that they let them take the dog before the home visit?

oh no with the siberian huskey puppy we let the new owner take it home before the visit because we didn't want to have a problem with the other people and did the homevisit after the mean guy and his family left

we went to the home visit for the snouzer when the other people left

That's good to hear. I was afraid the poor little schnauzer went home with the mean guy. I am sorry that you had such a bad day. It is sad that you, doing such wonderful work, helping these animals and having to put up with such mean people. I worked retail for many years and I know that dealing with the public can be very stressful. Just remind yourself of all the animals that you are helping. You should be very proud of yourself.
