Great idea for a thread! I love the nature aspect of where I live. I am surrounded by forest and lakes that are amazing and alive all year round. I am just under 2 hours away from Lake Michigan, which has the longest fresh water beaches in the world. I also love the weather! I love the warm summers at the lake, and I love the cold winters at the ski resorts. There are so many great places to visit too! We take what we call a "local" vacation every year and we still haven't seen all there is to see! I love where I live and never plan on moving unless it's closer to Lake Michigan.

I like that we are only 20 minutes away from a moderatly sized city (Greenville) and only 1 1/2 hours away from two major cities (Atlanta and Charlotte).
I also like that we live in a fairly rural area and aren't zoned for anything (no pet limits!). Also, the taxes here are soooooooooo much lower than where we used to live (NC). |

I love where my house is because of the golf course across the street. It's owned by the park district, so it's more woodsy than country club, and there are always dogs on it. There's a forest preserve a half block away, and there aren't many kids in the neighborhood. My neighborhood is also in a very centrally located place between my job, Joe's job, and all of both of our friends and family.
I love the town I live in because it has easy access to several main highways, and several train stations. It's so easy to go elsewhere! We're a 40 minute drive from downtown Chicago- I can't count the number of times we've gone to Chicago for concerts and plays and ballets and parades and dinner. Chicago has some pretty incredible museums and such- Museum of Science and Industry, the Field Museum, The Art Institute, the Shedd Aquarium, Lincoln Park Zoo, Brookfield Zoo, the Mexican Fine Arts Center, the Museum of Contemporary Art, etc. Add in Bluesfest and Jazzfest and the taste of Chicago and around the Coyote and all of the other random festivals and gatherings, and it's amazing I ever leave Chicago! Then again, with two big airports so close by, sometimes it's so tempting to pick up and go! I love Illinois for it's seasonal changes. By the time I'm sick of snow, it's about time for spring. When I'm sick of sweating all summer long, we get that first cool autumn day. I love seeing the crocuses pop up through the snow and the fuzzy buds on the magnolias turn into bright, bright green foliage. I love watching the country side turn shades of gold, amber, and burgundy... and then waking up to the entire world having been whitewashed with snow (like this morning!). I love the fact that with just an hour or two's drive, I can be in Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, and Iowa. I'm so glad that I can run to Madison or Milwaukee to visit friends. Heck, this Thursday, my coworker and I are visiting a half dozen shelters on a road trip into Wisconsin, so that I can take my cousin to lunch and adopt a zebra finch! I love that within an hour, I can go from riding a horse through a plowed over soybean field to cursing the traffic in downtown Naperville. |

Chugwater??!! Too, too funny. I went to the 2nd annual Chugwater Chilli Cookoff in September 1987 (which was a riot). That would be the dawn of the evil decade. Population 16-1/2, and we ran out of paved roads when we got off the freeway. Boulder is a much better idea. |

I love where I live. I like living in rural area. I like the hiking trails in my area. There is mountains to climb. I live down a mile of dirt road.

The trees are nice. Apart from that, it's boring, boring, boring. Aussieland is a great place to live, if you don't live here. As they say...the grass is always greener on the other side. Having said that, I do love that I live in Australia...for no other reason than, it's my home. ![]() Cass. |

Oh they were making such a racket! But I don't mind their screaching much. The dogs on the other hand... They wouldn't stop barking at the cockatoos! It was sooo annoying! Lorikeets get so loud, don't they - with their high trills and chirps. We get them in our backyard as they feed off the bottlebrush plants from next door.

I love where I live - out in the middle of nowhere... The only part I don't like is we rarely get any snow that sticks around for more than a week... And when we do get snow, it's only an inch or two...
![]() The part I like most is the forests and trails in the area. They're a great place to take Mazie for a walk on, and she can even pick up a nice stick on the way through.. LOL.. We have a beach, which she absolutely loves to run on... and she's FAST... We have an excellent swimming hole, complete with rope swing. ![]() Here's a picture of where I live ... my house is the big, white one, just left of center.. Hope it's not too large - it's just right on my computer, but then again, I run at a high resolution... lol ![]() I love traveling.. I don't care where we're going, as long as we're going... My friend and I (and Mazie) will be going for a drive to Denver in June to visit his sister for a couple days and then we'll be heading south to New Mexico, Arizona, and come back up home through California.. Can hardly wait. ![]() |

OMG MazieDog, how beautiful!!! Where is Skamakow? I lived in Cheyenne for 8 years, when I was married (the evil decade) and we used to camp west/northwest of Denver all the time. It's some of the most beautiful country I've ever seen, and I would love to go back to that area.

Oh my GOSH MazieDog!
That is SO beautiful!! I'd looove to live somewhere like that. In the mountains/valleys here it can look like that. That's the kind of scenery I love. |

You too, Swiftwind!! The one for-sure thing I want to do in my life is go to Australia and New Zealand. You lucky ducky!!! All right, I'm basing this on the scenery from the Hercules and Zena series, and from the Lord of the Rings movies. Truly some of the most breath-taking scenery I have ever seen!!! And you're right there!! On the one continent left with hundreds of square miles of unexplored terrain (isn't that so, or am I reading the wrong magazines?) Anyway, I've lived in a good portion of the United States and I lived in Belgium for a year, and I've never seen landscape as awesome as your home.
