The landscape in LotR, Xena & Hercules is purely New Zealand as far as I know. It is suppose to be beautiful there, although I've never been.
Aussieland does have lots of unexplored terrain..but most of it's desert and time spent out there would probably kill you. LOL The country areas are beautiful...but neither Swiftwind nor I actually live in those areas. I'm closer than she is though. At least there is bushland around me and there are some hobby farms. Not much though. I wish I lived in a place like Justin, too. Hopefully one day I'll be able to turn up on his doorstep and make a nuisance of myself while taking up space in his home. Cass. |

Cass, have you been to Kangaroo Valley? It's beautiful there, in amongst the mountains and greenery. The Byron Bay hinterland is also very pretty.

I haven't been to Kangaroo Valley but I've been to Byron Bay a few times. It's too "yuppyish" for me now, but outside of Byron itself it's gorgeous.
And I grew up in Sawtell near Coffs Harbour, that use to be quite a beautiful place until the city people moved in and turned it into yuppytown.(ok..I'm a snob, I hate city people moving to the country and turning the country into the city Makes me sad)Cass. |

I like that mountains are less than 2 hours away. Beautiful scenery there, especially in the fall. Winters aren't too brutal here, although I'd love one good snow once a winter (something that's sorely lacking here). We're within an easy day's drive of either the Atlantic or Gulf Coast at their closest spots. There's quite a bit to do here, although we don't actually DO much of it--we're either usually broke or exhausted, or both! I'm originally from Kentucky, and I love it there because it's...well, home. Most of my family still lives there. There are some UK fans down here, but nothing like driving through the state of Kentucky and seeing quite a few cars sporting those blue logos. ![]() |

Portland, OR
*The whole "style" of the city - everywhere you look are bumper stickers that say "keep Portland weird," and all of us are dedicated to ensuring that it stays this way. We just have a bizarre, multi-faceted, multi-talented community, and it's reflected in the people that live here, the shops that thrive here, and the activities people participate in. *Great restaurants, fun night-life that includes clubs and beyond (the beyond being bizarre places like VooDoo Donut), and good shows if you know who to talk to and where to look. Also a burgeoning film community. *Very dog friendly. *Forest Park - I believe it's one of the biggest parks in the nation. Wonderful place to run or hike. |

What I like most in the area I live in is everyone loves animals. We have dogs and cats and horses, and everyone knows everyone else's pets by name. We live near the ocean, so we can go to the beach in a few minutes and ride the horses and play with the dogs. We can go to mountains in less than 1/2 hour, ride the horses and play with the dogs. We can go to each others homes and........eat..... and talk about our horses and dogs and cats.
We have THE BEST lobster and the best steaks east of Omaha. |

Hi
Since I really don't like the coldness (not referring to weather here) of where I'm at, may I cheat here? Besides beautiful, friendly Chicago, this is one of the reasons Palm Beach is right up there with it: ![]() I loved living in Palm Beach & Chicago the most because of the friendly atmospheres, not to mention, the abundance of gracious, nicely run businesses to patronize for anything you'd need. Crowded grocery stores were a pleasure! For those reasons, these are the only places I've lived and worked which can top the city neighborhood I grew up in & loved. IcyBlue, I was thisclose to going to Jupiter last Fall, near Abacoa! Family = I didn't :>) |

I agree, Portland is one of the friendliest cities I've been to.. Where's Forest Park located? I've heard of it, but never really figured out where it was. Guess I could google it, but then again, I'm lazy. If you ever get the chance, go for a hike up Multnomah Falls ... It's one of the best hikes I've ever been on - lots of friendly people with their dogs. I went up there last May and hiked up I think four of the falls down in that area. I figure I'd go as long as Mazie could... Turns out, after the 3rd fall, she STILL wanted to hike more, but I was dead.. We went up anyway.. lol.. The bonus is, Mazie got to play with an APBT puppy up at the top of Multnomah.. That was fun. The extra bonus is: She slept aaaalllll the way home.. and then the rest of the day, night, and part of the next day.. Then again, so did I.. we were both worn out.Skamokawa is roughly an hour and a half away from Portland, OR, so I do get to visit "the city" a lot.. ![]() Cass, I've already cleared it with my parents - you can stay anytime you like, just so long as you bring my mom a koala and my dad a didjeridoo.. LOL |

Apart from the temperate climate and beauty of the Pacific Northwest, Victoria is REALLY dog-friendly...tons of beaches and off-leash areas...a dog-walker's paradise!!

I agree - Victoria is one of the nicest cities I've ever been to in Canada. Then again, it's the only city I've ever been to in Canada.. LOL
