I've seen each one that you've mentioned at one of our local pet stores. Off the top of my head I can only think of a few "rarer" breeds that I haven't seen in there.

They are all too large to put in those little cubes.

I've seen malamutes, rotties (very common down here), collies and shelties in pet stores down here...as well as lots of mastiff mixes.

But breeds I've never seen? Hmmm....
Neapolitan Mastiffs
Dogue de Bordeaux (although these two have turned up in pet stores in Australia...I've just never personally seen them)
Irish Wolfhounds
Deerhounds
Pointers
AmStaffs (they're not common enough in Australia..we mostly see StaffBulls in stores)
American Cocker Spaniels (they're a rare breed down here...only English Cockers are found in petstores here)

And a huge number of rare breeds of course.

Cass.

I don't go to the petstore enough to where I know all the breeds that they get in but when I was in there monday they had:
2 boxers
2 chihuahuas
2 boston terriers
1 black pug
2 cavalier king charles spanials
1 mini wirehaired dachshund
2 pit bulls
1 bishonpoo
1 peke
and one little lab mix puppy that someone had dropped off a litter of (charging 150 for it)

This petstore has a whole wall full of glass cages to where they are all on display for everyone to see.

My bullmastiff x rottweiler was in a petstore...with his 11 litter mates....far too large for the window boxes they had them in (they did go home every night though)

Other than Italian Greyhounds and whippets, I've really never seen any of the other sighthounds in a pet store.

Shh... don't remind them! I thank god that I've never seen a Basenji in a pet store.

I bet they'd sell them like crazy ("hypoallergenic," barkless, shedless, bakes cookies, knows cpr, etc!) if they could breed them as quickly. With the females generally only going into heat once a year, it's more difficult- thank goodness!

That's too funny! They are great dogs though, aren't they! I dont' see too many at the coursing events in GA, but saw quite a large contingent of them at a meet in Florida once.

I've seen many of those breeds in petstores, but not on a regular basis. One of the reasons is, I think, that a lot of them definitely do get big - and they also go through that "puppy uglies" adolescent stage. They're still puppies, per se, but they don't LOOK like puppies to the average joe, and that probably makes them a lot harder to sell to the average joe - if they weren't snapped up quickly when they were still small - whereas some of your smaller breeds and toy breeds will, even as they get older, still looks small, cute and "puppyish" to the impulse buyer.

A lot of impulse buyers don't want to be reminded that what they're buying is really a future adult *dog* - not a perpetual puppy. Some of those bigger breeds end up reminding you a lot more quickly of that than do the smaller ones.

That is very true. The dogs I have seen often in our petstore:
Boston Terrier/Beagle mixes.
Lab/Poodle mixes.
Golden/Poodle mixes
Akitas
Rotties
Weims
Boxers
Bull Terriers
JRTs
Rat Terriers
Schnauzers
Shih Tzus
Lhasa Apsos
Cockers
The occasional Lab or Golden
Saint Bernards....

I hate going into the petstore, because not only do they have large puppies crammed into small cages, they have around 30 Budgies crammed into a small cage, four rabbits crammed into a small cage, and around 4-6 ferrets in a small cage...ticks me off.
