I would never clone one of my pets! First of all the cost and second I want to remember the ones I have lost and all the special times we spent together. Yes I was hard to loose my babies but I have all the memories and that is what counts. What scares me is what are they going to clone next? How long till someone tries to clone a person. Now that is truely scary!

It never ceases to amaze me how utterly STUPID humans can be be. Whether or not you believe "evolution" "creationism", etc, it is pretty obvious that however all things got here, they've changed over time, absolutely everything changes, for better or worse, they change. Now why does someone think its a good idea to clone dairy cattle, sheep, pets, humans??, and keep them "genetically" the same. Well as close to the same as they can get them, minus all the genetic damage that's done in the cloning process. Maybe i'm just a sick individual, but I wouldn't bother me to see a bit of a Pet Cemetery sequence happen. Just have them pump out a few derranged "clones" that get major media coverage and people wake up and realize what they're doing.

I couldn't do it.

And, it would take so much of the fun out of owning dogs. What I love about my dogs is their uniqueness. I like the challenge of getting to know each individual dog, the best way to train them, their favorite foods, 'itchy' spots, etc.

I know I couldn't do it. When we lost our Gabby my world stopped, she took with her a huge part of my heart and soul and that is something I'll never get back.

Something really strange, one week before Gabby passed away, her daughter Ginger had a litter of pups, it was an outcross breeding but yet in the litter one little girl stood out amongst the rest and when I can muster enough courage I'll post her pic next to her Grandmother Gabby's pic for you all to see.

Ginger's daughter is almost identical to her Grandmother, same exact color, same exact markings except for one paw with a white sock instead of all red and even the same expressions, movements and sounding bark. Her name is Immy - registered name Crossfire's Mirrored Image. There are days when it just breaks my heart to even look at her and others where I'm soooo thankful that a part of Gabby carries on but to actually clone? NO, there will not nor could there ever be another Gabrielle, my heart couldn't take it and although another might look like her their souls are still very different and I prefer to remember my girl for what she was not her shell.

Aw, Crossfire, that broke MY heart reading your post. I can't imagine how hard it would be to lose my Boone. I'm so glad you have Immy in your life to remind you of Gabby.

And you've all said it. No way in hades would I clone anything. Too much money, too scarey, just too much all together. Memories will suffice for me when that day comes for me and I lose my baby.

I haven't read this thread (only the first couple of posts) but I would NOT clone an animal. I see no point to it. It might look like your dog, but it would never be your dog. If you want something that looks like your dog, get a statue.
If Rose died, I would rather treasure her memories, and get a new dog, than have a weird, fake copy walking around, that only looks like her.

I don't want to clone my pets. I have lost pets and miss them so terribly, but I wouldn't clone them because, as you said Ritz, it wouldn't be "the real thing". It would look like my lost pet, but it wouldn't actually be it. I'd rather have fond memories of the pet I had lost and loved and feel the grief than have a clone hopping around my house.

Cloning isn't even in the least bit natural either. That's what bothers me about it. NOTHING is natural in it.

since a lot of people believe all mammals have souls, I often think about the possibility that if a person or animal was cloned.......would they get a soul. I hope her little cloned cat has the ability to love, to have different emotions that they would have otherwise.

I believe they mean it dies before it is given to the new owner. They have to try several times before they get one that "works" (to put it crudely). Probably one of the reasons why it costs so much.
I don't like it either. I think cloning could be a great way to save endangered species and to bring back animals that have become extinct because of man (like the Thylacine -tasmanian tiger-), but using it to clone pets is just creepy and disrespectful in my opinion.
Disrespectful because it's selfish and superficial. No real thought is given to the 'new' life created, the focus is on the old pet...getting their baby back. Which, of course, is not the case at all.
It's worse than having them stuffed. Oh gods, do I hate that.
Just let them go and give another pet in need a home.

Cass.
