i had no idea your pooch is elderly and ill, if i were you in your shoes i'd stay back with him and give what he needs. You have a lifetime with your family, an elderly dog can pass on at anytime. I'm the type of person that would get paranoid if i went oversease and something happens to my elderly dog by the time i get back & regret it that i wasn't there for their last moments you know?....
I bet it's a tough decision though. |

Very true.
You can see why I feel like crap over this? I feel physically ill every time I think about it. And I've got 5 - 6 months to feel like the worst person in the world before I make my decision. ![]() Cass. |

Why not ask your Vet. if you can give it a trial run by letting him stay with her for a few days. If it works out ok then do it again a few more times until you do leave. This way it won't bother him a bit when you leave for real.

I'm not worried about that, I'm worried about him dying or becoming worse while I'm away. I know he'll be fine at the vets.
She's an amazing person who loves him dearly and he'll have my father there every day.Anyway...it's half a year away yet. A lot can happen in half a year. I'll just see how things go. Cass. |

If I were you I'd just wait and see how things go - if you start to become extremely worried about leaving him (feeling that he might pass away when you're on holidays) then I'd suggest calling off the holiday - how relaxing will it be if you won't stop worrying on your holiday? Going overseas is an amazing adventure, and if I were you I would want to enjoy it 100%.
Have you talked to your parents about this? Would they be willing to give you the opportunity to go overseas at another time, a few years down the track, if you decided to stay home this year? I know just how awful it can be to have a dog pass away when you're on holidays. Trust me, it isn't nice! You have to make such a huge decision, but I'm sure in the end you'll know what's right. |
