christmas dog stats

where i live the shelters that had christmas dogs/puppies had this many:

ASPCA-over 1000 (they were full and for many reasons had to pts alot of wonderful dogs-

PLUTO RESCUE(my shelter) 1 christmas puppy and alomst 10 dogs that were adopted from another shelter and dumped in a different one and taken out from the euthanisation list from the shelter i am at

NYCACC- 300 dogs and 200 puppies

there are more and each day the number of christmas dogs rise

the most popular to give around christmas is chihuahuas, pugs, maltese, siberian huskey and dachsunds

It's so unfortunate Not everyone realizes that you can't just give someone a dog/puppy and hope that the person is ready for the responsibility. Or, they expect the dog to be fully obedience trained, potty trained, and understand every bit of english you speak to it. Then when they find out this isn't so, they just dump the dog. And I'm sure they're off to find another dog/puppy to replace it.

I don't think it will ever stop. I think it's just going to get worse, and those who are irresponsible will just end up ruining it for all of the wonderful dog owners.

What a waste.

I wish people would put more thought into bringing an animal into their homes

I agree! I think we have become a "disposable" society... you don't like something get rid of it and try again. So sad

That's interesting.

We haven't had any dogs adopted near Christmas returned. We've had two pet store puppies relinquished to us.

We had this article: http://www.daily-chronicle.com/artic...ews/news03.txt

in the local paper right before christmas. Make sure you check out the puppies in the photo there- aren't they precious?
