Some People!!!

All of my clients know I love my dogs like children, they know how much I love all dogs! I've had people say some pretty stupid things, my favorite being "You're dogs won't take care of you when your old" My response:"Who says your kids will take care of you!" I always say it joking b/c I can't offend a customer. Well, today one of my clients was an older lady who's been coming to me for about 3 mths. As soon as she came in she asked if I had heard about a dog attack that was on the news this morning. I said no, so she partly told me the story, then proceeded to say that all "rothwilders" (I assume she's talking about rotties) should be put down, then said that ALL large dogs should be put down! I started to talk about training and said that no child should ever be left unattended with ANY dog. Well, I was interrupted and told that was not true, that you NEVER have to worry about a child and a small dog, that having a big dog is asking for trouble. I excused myself to check another client under the dryer, and when I got back, I abruptly changed the subject, and she tried to change it back. I said simply "I will never agree with your point of view" and changed the subject again. She should consider herself lucky that she got a good haircut today, b/c the thought of grabbing my clippers entered my mind more than once!!!

Yesh. I would have blown up pretty good if I knew somebody who said that.....that would mean she would want the Seeing Eye dogs, rescue dogs, police dogs, and thearpy dogs put down too? Because most of those are big dogs. Next time a GSD (or a Rottie) saves somebody's life because it found a bomb or it attacked somebody who was about ready to shoot them or rescued a kid from a burning building, let's go put that dog down because it is evil and will attack people.

And hey, while we are at it, let's go and PTS all of the horses in the world too because they are big and might just kick somebody! But we will leave all of the mice and rats be (I have nothing agiants them by the way) because they are small and could never carry desiese or hurt babies or anything like that! And that dogs that were in the DogFancy magizine because one saved it's owners life from a bear attack and the other saved a child from a snake bite by pushing the child away and taking the bite itself shoud be put down too because hey, they were big dogs!
And let's just ignore the fact that a Pomarainen(sp?) once killed a child because it was left alone with it and that I've met a Chi that could maul you if it really tried.

Ok, I think I'm done now........people like that just make me soooooo mad and I had to do a little bit of ranting......

My Papillon is completely untrustworthy with kids, so there goes her theory right there. But, my 40lb BC (A breed that is stereotyped as being uncontrollably hyper, one-person dogs) does fantastically with kids. I wouldn't leave him alone in a room with kids, ever, not because I don't trust the dog, but because I don't trust the kids.

Your customer was obviously insane...

Yup, we can only hope at her age, that senility is setting in and she doesn't know any better. She actually made me more angry than a client who asked me if I was pregnant when I was over weight!

Well, here's my 2 cents..........hehe, since I'm a very big lover of LARGE DOG'S, , I've had more trouble with little dogs biting and being nasty, then I ever have with any big dogs..But I do agree that you shouldn't leave a small child with any dog, that you don't know...But some people, it just drives me nut's, that they pry have never owned a dog in their life, then say those things about diff. breeds of dogs........yeah yeah, I've heard them all: Rotti's are dangerous, along with Pincher's, Shepherds, etc............duh..........??? Sorry, guys - but I truely believe that its how your raise and train dog..Well, and maybe in some cases, bad breeding.......

Ugh - I've gone through similar instances of bull - and there is nothing that makes me more furious than people talking out of their (cough cough edit) when they know nothing about dogs. Earlier this year I did some research on pit bulls and the amount of discrimination they're up against, and last year I was studying bsl. This woman would probably be shocked to know that among other breeds responsible for fatal dog attacks, poms, yorkies, goldens, and labs were included. In temperament tests that measured the dog's likelihood of biting, AMPTs were seventh...from the bottom.

I had a friend tell me this year that pits were baby-killing monsters and that bsl was the best thing that could have ever happened to them. I was close to telling her she stood more danger from me attacking her than from a dog. (Instead I sent her that video, the Pit Bull problem, and several e-mail lectures).

It would be hilarious how little people thought things through (ie getting rid of big dogs - including seeing-eye breeds, SAR dogs, tracking dogs, water rescue dogs, herding dogs, etc) if it wasn't so scary.
