Me too. I live in a remote, resort area in north Idaho. There's snow on the ground from about now till April or May. There's not a whole lot to do besides snow mobiling, cross country skiing and a couple of local taverns to play pool and drink beer. LOL. It's beautiful and a great place for dogs and walking/hiking. So, before I got Lyric, I spent about 6-9 hours a day at least for a year reading, reading, reading like a possessed woman about training and all kinds of things regarding dogs and a lot on Dobermans specifically. I still spend too much time reading when I should be shovelling snow, straightening my garage, cleaning or something.

Here's how I see the cave men: They're sitting around the camp fire (if fire had been discovered yet) or just sitting around eating the deer they just killed, singing something like cowboy songs and tossing the bones over their shoulders into the bushes. A couple of brave dogs run in and grab the bones and dart back. There may be a few older pups with these dogs. Every other night or when they smell food, they come to see if they can scavange something. The cavemen notice this and get a kick out of the dogs. Then one day the pups come, but the mother doesn't. Something's happened to the mother. She's been killed or just died. The pups, because they haven't been on their own are even tamer. The men think they're cute and take care to feed them and keep them warm. They figure too, that they may be able to use these dogs when they grow up to help them hunt. They're faster and seem to be smart and brave. And so it goes.....the domestication of wolves or some kind of off shoot of the wolf.

His Masters Voice, your post interests me. In your theory how do you accomodate reality of backlash? We see it every day, with one step forward there is not long after a one step back<socially and ideologically>. Man is no different to what he was 30 thousand years ago, his brain and learning capacity the same, his emotions same, his needs the same <religious beliefs are the prime indicator of this>merely learning different disciplines because of past collective knowledge. Technology may go on its merry way, human need for contact and comfort is not going to disappear. Argument may be put up for a dog taking its place as pet if only to offset frantic rate of progress.
Now I am not going beyond the point when man's vital organs are replaced by artifical compounds. And we are a long way from understanding the brain in its full complexity.
Just mussing.

Maybe the humans ate her and kept the puppies and raised them for food. A lot easier than hunting deer. Just a thought.

Oh yes....definitely a possibility. They probably didn't share our sentiments over dogs at first. Lots of cultures still don't. Maybe one of the wives threatened the caveman husband..."no pull ponytail, no go in cave with you if you don't let me keep those cute little puppies."
