We have a town in my state called Wagga Wagga (pronounced as Wogga Wogga), which I always thought sounded pretty funny. It's a local Wiradjuri Aboriginal word meaning 'the place of many crows'.

This is an easy one for towns here in PA Dutch Country!
![]() I live about 2 miles from Virginville, PA. Other fun PA Dutch Country towns include Bird-in-Hand Intercourse Blue Ball Fertility Paradise When I was on the western side of the state in December, we passed a town called Eighty-Four. That struck me as funny. ![]() Joanne ![]() |

I always get asked about the town Horseheads NY.... Its pretty normal for me, since ive lived here for so long, but visitors always question it and its origins.
(During the Revolutionary War the Battle of Newtown was fought here during the Sullivan Expidition. For reasons never quite agreed upon, quite a few horses perished here. All of their heads were left behind, in nice little rows. Hence- Horseheads. ) I cant think of any other local "weird" names right now. |

![]() ![]() I lived in a town called Woy Woy. That's kinda weird. Now I live in Summerland Point, which is full of old people. 'The Summerland' is a name for the afterlife so I use to say they (the oldies) were all living here to prepare for the inevitable. Cass. |

We have a place called "PeachLand"
Everytime I drive through it, it just strikes me as being something mystical lol I guess it was named that because the town does alot of wine crop growing. |

People always say my town (Skamokawa) is weird.. It's not weird - they just can't pronounce it! They usually either say, "Scam o cow uh" or "skuh mock uh wuh" ... but the real pronunciation is "Skuh mock away"
It's Chinook Indian for "Smoke on the Water," not to be confused with the Deep Purple hit, "Smoke on the Water..." LOL... it got it's name because literally every morning you can walk down to the river and see fog rising from the surface, and it has the appearance of smoke... Which is exactly how Fort Clatsop burned down - the 911 operator told the caller that the fog in the area had a smoke-like effect and that there was no need to worry... So in breaking news, "Fort Clatsop caught fog and burned to the ground." LOLOn Highway 101 going up towards the ferries to Victoria, BC, there's a town called Humahuma - and if you blink, you'll miss it.. The sign literally says, "Welcome to Humahuma, we hope you enjoyed your visit." It's an Indian reservation. Somewhere close-by there, there's a fireworks stand with the name "Ill Eagle Fireworks" ![]() Then there's a town called "Humptulips," which I'm not even going to try to discuss its origins... In eastern Washington, we have a town called Starbuck. Do they drink coffee? Probably. Across the river, in Oregon, there's Boring, OR, and Half.com, OR... Yes, Half.com, Oregon.... That one is worthy of a Google search... LOL |

Chugwater, Wyoming -- a teenie weenie town. Apparently it was a location that didn't have much water back in the early 1900s so people had to chug some into the place. At least that is what I heard. I mentioned in another thread that I almost accepted a teaching job there and decided against it.
