Update on Lugar.
Just giving a quick update on how Lugar is doing.
He's doing wonderful. Kelso and him have been playing very well together, but today, Kelso is getting a bit on the jealous side. He has been getting possessive over bones and such, so we've had to pick those up for a while. He won't even be chewing on a bone, but when Lugar goes to pick it up, he races over and lets out a growl like "Nope, that's mine!". So we've had to stop him from doing that... meany head. Children.... LOL He does very well while sleeping with me at night. Starts out on the bed, and then on the floor. The only thing is he still thinks that the kittens are going to play with him. LOL He'll spot Tiki, go over, play bow and start doing this play bark. Silly dog. But "No!" doesn't work for him. He responds better to "Ah-ah!" so we are using that. He's already getting very attached to me. My mom said when I left for school this morning (he tried to leave with me too LOL), she thought he was going to tear down the door. So she finally got him to come over to her and he settled down. Aww, he's just so cute!Well, I've got to get back to work. Edan (owner) went to drop off dogs so I have to watch the front while he's gone. UPDATED PICTURES TONIGHT! So look'out! ![]() |

Last night, I swear Lugar could have woken the dead! My boyfriend was on the computer, while I was sleeping. Lugar was on the floor asleep. Just as I'm about to fall asleep, Lugar lets out this horrendous bark (it was more like a deep screaming bark) and just kept barking. Well, I guess my boyfriend had made a noise, which scared him out of his sleep so he did what comes natural I guess. LOL But by golly.. :Speak: Lately, he has been barking a little more at noises he hears. Which I'm glad to see he is not afraid to "protect"/"warn" intruders.
He's still doing wonderful. Tomorrow, he goes in to the vet for a follow up exam and his rabies. It's free (within the first 14 days) through the Broward Humane society. We went to the park today, and he had a blast getting to run in a more open area. He's such a good booger ![]() |

I'm glad he has settled in!
He sounds a lot like Sadie...I miss my puppy. I actually had a dream last night that instead of giving her back I screamed, "You can't take my dog!" and then sat down on the floor and started bawling. Haha...my sisters do the same thing with their toys. JeanAnne won't even be playing with a toy but if Melanie goes and tries to play with it....girl fight! I wonder if saying, "Ah-ah!" would work for them. ![]() |

I'm glad he is fitting in so well. New dogs always seem to fit into my house well too. I wish I could use that on younger kids as well. My nephiews can be a handful. He sounds like Lucy she is always barking at everything as well.

hello,
i just want to congratulate you on your new addition! Another homeless pet given a great home to live in! I do want to ask you though..are you keeping Lugar separate (by crate or room) from your other four dogs and cats when you cannot supervise them? If you are that is wonderful!! If not, I cannot express the importance of doing this. As i am sure you know these dogs not are your typical breed of dogs and do not fare well in dog packs. Any dog has the tendency to fight but Pit Bulls will NOT back down from a challenge nor will they stop once a fight is started. They will inflict damage, it was the purpose they were bred for and even though its been over 70 years since dog fights became illegal the instinct will ALWAYS be there, rarin to go. I know your dog is a puppy now and you've already expressed your knowledge about problems that may arrive later as he ages, but even though he will have been raised with your other dogs it doesnt mean they will always get along so it is best to eliminate ALL possibilities of a fight from happening for the safety of him and your other dogs. You will have to do this for the rest of your dog's life, it is part of Pit Bull ownership and responsibility. I am sure you realize this. I have two pit bulls and a soon to add a Maltese to the family and my two pits are ALWAYS separated when I cannot moniter them at all times. My heart would just break if I came home one day and found one or both bloody and hurt over some fight. That will NOT happen in my home. But I know this is not an uncommon occurance, I've seen firsthand the damage that can happen. Better safe than sorry! Thanks for reading and best of luck! kelli |
