We're home [from Missie's vacation :P]!!
Well, we're back from the beach! I took a gazillion pictures of Missie all around up there, but you'll have to wait until I can get my computer up and running I'm afraid. Maybe tomorrow!
Thank you all sooo much for your helpful advice and suggestions! With the exception of a few unexplained accidents [going potty inside], everything went great! I even found the little capsule ID I needed about halfway through the trip- in blue, too! But we had no running-away incidents, and she loved running on the beach on her retractable leash. She didn't even bark when I had to leave her at the house for several hours at a time- just napped, then greeted us at the door looking sleepy. lol She slept the whole 5 hours on the way up on my lap (I had her tied to my seatbelt, giving her just enough slack to lay down). We stopped twice. The first time she wouldn't go potty because it was raining, so we stopped down a little further where it was sunny. lol I think we only stopped once on the way home, as she went potty before we left. I have to say, I think Missie got more of a vacation than I did! Just having to constantly keep an eye on her in the house was tiring, and, of course, everything revolved around her. I slept on a (flat, by morning) air matress in the kitchen the first night, because even sleeping right next to her on the other side of the pen she just whined and whined. I slept with her the whole rest of the time (but I got a different bed, and we extended the pen out so I was on carpet ). We started out taking her out to the garage to some newspapers for her to go potty. It was raining pretty hard most of the time we were up there, and she will not go potty in the rain. She went in the garage a couple times, but I gave her some newspaper inside for safety, and she preferred to use that- and was pretty faithful, too. After starting off with a sleepless night I just couldn't expect to wake up twice during the night/early morning and take her to the cold garage and stand there saying "go potty" for 15 minutes. :P I don't think she liked it any better than I did! So she went inside, and we only had a few 'accidents' (hey, they weren't accidents on her part! ). Even walking on the beach all my attention was on her- taking pictures, keeping her away from other dogs, cleaning up after her, not allowing her to touch anything gross-looking. lol I honestly don't know how people 'vacation' with dogs. Missie had a great vacation- I'm just beat. lolI also re-affirmed I never want kids. Every time we left the house I'd be fine away from her for about an hour, then anxiety kicked in and I NEEDED to go home and check on her. I told my mom this and she said, "great, now you know how I feel when you're out of the house!". Nevermind coming home and unpacking two suitcases- her's first, of course! Ah, yes. But we are home. She's napping from 'exhaustion', and I'm sitting up late catching up with everyone online. lol Ah, to be a dog! Thanks again, bunches, for all your suggestions! Our vacation did go off without a hitch. I'll repay you with pictures- soon! ![]() |

I'm glad you had a good time. Sorry you had to sleep on a flat air mattress though! LOL I can't wait to see the pictures. Arent those retractable leashes great for the beach? Thats the only place I use mine. I got a 26 foot one for Bailey and I never have to worry about her trying to swim out to sea. She loves the waves and it scares me death!

Thanks everyone.
Posting pictures in a minute here- watch for seperate thread, as it will be pic heavy! Barrett- Only place I use mine, too! I don't know what I would've done without it. Her constant pulling would've been horribly irritating, and somewhat painful on my shoulder joints. lol It's definitely a must-have for the beach!! |
