Aw, what a cute puppy. She does look a bit skinny...that's how the Lab mix I know looks. Very good pics!

she may be a tad on the thin side, but its hard to tell. In the one picture she's turned to the side and her ribs are showing, but she's turned to the side, i think i can even get my ribs to show yet when I do that Considering most people keep their puppies and dogs way to fat it is unusual to see a dog that looks "skinny". as a general rule i like to be able to feel the ribs, without having to press through that fat layer underneath, but I don't want to see them, if I start seeing the back two ribs getting defined i'd get worried. I want to see that stomach move in behind the ribs when I look from the top, depending on the breed I guess. How much do they feed and how active is the pup?? If its had a health check and it is ok, i'd maybe suggest being able to feel the ribs but not see them, at least then you know they'll keep any eye out for it, but overall it doesn't look like an unhealthy pup.

GSD--I like to be able to feel the ribs too, maybe see them a LITTLE bit, but if I can see them clearly, even if the dog takes in a breath or something I freak out. I have decided on perfect weights for my dogs and keep them at it. My Canaan mix: 50 lbs. My Lab: 60-65 lbs. My Border Collie mix: 55-60 lbs..

She's about 4-5 months. Her owners are morons. They didn't have shots for her in the first place. The kid Chris is the kinda little boy that talks to much LOL Tells you too much info sometimes... I asked him how many times she eats, and he said he only sees her eat once, and that's after he gets home from school and he said he's "not really sure" if she gets fed in the morning.

When you pet her, her coat is very dry, and you can feel her hips. If you pet her sides, you can feel the ribs without even pressing on her. The thing is, when she had the worm before, she looked exactly that way. And if she comes in the house, smells their bowl of food, she gobbles up every bit of it and more.

I guess in person she looks a little skinnier than in the pictures. I know what you mean by being lean, cause Sheiba is that way. She doesn't put any weight on...

She's becoming 'leary' of strangers. If she sees someone she doesn't know, she walks half way over to them, and stops and kinda just gets that look like "Who are you" and then when they talk to her a little bit, she hops over there all happy.

ok, well being a rottie owner, I don't think she looks so skinny. I would prefer a thin puppy at that age 4-5 months. To much weight would be hard on her.

However, she should be eating more than once per day, and be eating quality dog food.

But she could also have worms, and normal worm medicine doesn't kill every type of worm, so a vet should do a stool sample.

My cane corso was that skinny at that age, no matter what I feed her. Its just an akward stage of life. This is Rexie a 5 month old cane corso, an unlimited canidae fed dog, supplemented with satin balls and treats. SKINNNNNNNNNNY malinky!

This is her today at age 2.

Young dogs arent supposed to be squishy, I think the rottie good to a tad thin, nothing to be worried about. Better slightly on the thin side than already carrying too much weight.

This thread is a year old, folks. I think Lilly has a great new home now, if I remember correctly.
