Ear Gluing????

Have any of you ever heard of ear gluing, or at least i think that is wat its called..... its where u take a coin and glue it to the ear of your dog to keep the floppyness, i am not sure if that is for all dogs but i kno u can do it with a sheltie..... personally i wouldnt evr do it, i think it would be like torture, but wat are yalls opinions??

it doesn't hurt them, I've glued and taped all my shelties ears. THey don't notice it at all and it helps tips their ears. If you want I can post some sites for you to see how its done.

I swear....some people don't know the meaning of torture, have never seen torture or real abuse of animals. This business with the ear stuff is absurd. Why don't these animal rights people do something about abuse of animals, starvation, beatings, using dogs to fight with eachother, dogs left outside on a chain for their entire lives, dogs with tumors the size of volley balls left untreated? Why do we even mention these simple ear procedures? It's ludicrous!

i have a boxer with natural ears but i read up on the taping and messaging methods to get them to "lay right" (which they do)

http://intrends.tripod.com/TAPING.html

It worked very well and it didnt hurt her at all (how do i know? the age old question of how we know what dogs are feeling...). Becuase she sat still for me to do it each day and she never so much as lifted a paw to them to scratch or anything. (so this is how I will guage whether or not it bothered her).
Her ears turned out quite nicely (but then again... I'm a little biased )

Dakota's ears were glued when he was younger, to help 'set' them. I will be taping them soon, to give them a better 'tip' (because right now, they usually slant off to the side. His ear set looks low with them sitting like that)

Oh, and I don't know of anyone who glues the ears with a quarter... At least not in Border Collies. The way Dakota's breeder did his ears was she put a dab of ear glue to the tip of his ear, folded the ear down a bit into the desired position, and stuck the glued tip to some of the hair below his ears. After the first hour or so, he didn't even notice that his ears were glued down.

I wouldn't personally mess with my dogs ears unless if I was going to show them and the standard required that their ears be cropped or whatever. I'm not for, nor totally agianst, cropping or taping or gluing or whatever. Same goes with Docking. Everybody has their own opinion.
I agree with what Carrie said in her post above. Why be arguing and putting all of our effort into whether we should crop and dock because it might be cruel, when there are things going on out there to dogs and other animals that are cruel.

I don't have a problem with ear gluing at all. I have plenty of friends that have done it (both in and out of the dog show circuit) and in all cases it's been easy and painless.

I used a good ol' American quarter on my right ear and a British 5 pound coin on the left. No discernable pain in either ear
