2 dogs only.
I always hear how when people buy new homes their city would have breed restrictions like no pitt bulls, rotties, german shepherds etc...or that if you DO have these dogs you're only can have one.
Well i got curious so i did some reading if there were any breeds restriction in this town, hubby wants to get a German Shepherd, and there is no restrictions on these breeds. But they did say that we're only allowed to have two if you have more than two dogs it's considered a kennel. I wonder if this is their way of controlling the Back yard breeders and hoarders?, although it's not fair for people who can take care of 3 or 4 dogs. We are getting that 2nd sheltie next week on the 30th, so i guess we'll just stick with two dogs. Anyone have this kind of rule in their city?. |

I had always heard of something like this in my area, but I don't know if it was an actual rule. If you housed 4 or more dogs (that were intact) you had to obtain a kennel license. But, I've never heard anymore about it and I've never seen it enforced.
It doesn't surprise me though. I'm not exactly sure why they do it. I'd be interested to know! |

The reasoning for my area is simply to cut down the possibility of people having 10 barking dogs kept in bad condition and bothering the neighbours. A kennel license is really easy to obtain if you take proper care of your pets and always do so. I believe our max is 3 before you need to get one.

Im not sure with our town. Ive heard that its 2 dogs or less, but the rule isnt very strict. We have almost always had over 2 dogs, and a lot of people know we have 4 dogs. I think they dont mind because Wiener and Sophie are inside most of the time (their choice, they dont like going outside much), and our 2 dogs that go outside a lot are friendly and dont bark much. Someone down the road used to have 3 hounds, a big, fluffy, white dog, and a bunch of inside dogs. The hounds and white dog would run free in their big yard, barking at people. The 3 hounds would also roam town a lot of the time. Now all those dogs, even the inside ones, are gone, i guess there were complaints or something. I think that must be why we are allowed to have 4 dogs, no one complains about them, our closest neighbors are really nice and love dogs.

I'm fortunate to live in a place that has no restrictions on the number of pets you can have, but I have heard of people even here in Australia who can only have 2 or 3 dogs by law before it's considered a kennel.
I think, like OC said, that as long as you're responsible (and don't have crappy neighbours who hate you) it's no problem at all getting a kennel license so it's not such a huge deal. Although I'd hate to live somewhere that had restrictions. Cass. |

Here, you can only have 4 dogs (And other animals have no restrictions, even cats). But honestly, they don't enforce it at all. Even when I reported a lady down the street from my friends house who has atleast ONE hundred cats...ALL are breeding, I have reported that woman so many times its not even funny..and yet, everytime I go over there, cats everywhere...and they are skinny, and malnourished, and some are limping and covered in scabs, missing hair..Kittens EVERYWHERE...

I know in the town I live in, you're allowed to own up to three cats and three dogs. In the neighborhood I live in, you're allowed to own two dogs.
In a nearby town, the rule is simply that you can have a total of 4 cats and/or dogs. The rules generally are not enforced, unless there's a problem. |

Where I live you're restricted to 2 dogs - if you want more you need to get all your neighbours to agree then put in an application which the Council may or may not approve. If you live in either a unit, townhouse or any subdivided property you're only allowed to have 1 though (which applies to me). If you want more, same process as above applies. |

In our town we are allowed 3 dogs, and as many as we want under the age of 6 months strangely enough. More then 3 you are suppose to obtain a hobbie kennel licence (which allows 6) or if you want more you need a kennel licence(but this all only applies if someone rats you out, they are not very strict here. Alot of people have 4 or more dogs without licences) I think it's just a way for them to keep track of your dogs. You are also suppose to buy a tag for your dog every year and it costs $20 per dog. If they are not fixed then it's $40. I should buy those for my dogs, but I don't. They have their rabies tags and it directs people to there vet who in turn can contact me. They also have micro chips so I don't see the point of buying them a number just so the city can keep track of them. You don't even get in trouble if they find out you don't have one. And the only way they do that is if your dog gets caught by the pound, then before they will release them you have to buy a tag.
Breed of dogs do not matter here. No restrictions on anything, not even insurance which is nice. ![]() |

Take Responsibility

Here it is 2 dogs and they enforce it as much as they can. We have a "fanciers" license so we can have up to 6.....more if they are not "full timers" and the county knows we do rescue so they pretty much leave us alone as it is. Still 6 is plenty...
