Thumbs down Oh, great...

I dont know if anyone remembers, or if i even talked about it on here, but our neighbors own a huge, Shepherd/Rottie mix that is extremely aggressive. Well.. I just learned this morning that they have another aggressive Shepherd mix.

My dad had just told me the other day to be careful, because he has heard that these dogs WILL attack humans, and especially other dogs.

I woke early in the morning to a dog barking. It sounded a lot like Simetra, so i woke up with a start, getting ready to yell at the first person that i saw, asking why someone let Simetra out (im the only one who lets the springers out because no one will mind my rules with them). But, then i felt the usual 50 pounds over my legs, so i knew she was there with me. By then i was puzzled. But then i realized the barking was just outside the window next to my bed (im too lazy, i hadnt gotten up out of bed yet). So, i opened the curtain and there was my dad standing there, very still-looking. Then i realized there was a dog standing there (very aggressive looking, hackles raised, tail up really high, ect.), barking at him. My dad wasnt doing anything, he was just staying very still and not looking at the dog. I was scared for my dads safety!
Eventually the dog calmed down and my dad slowly put out a hand for the dog to sniff (brave, brave dad). The dog didnt even try to sniff his hand, he just took off, back to his house. I was so relieved when i heard my dad come in, unhurt.
The dog was probably about a springer-sized dog, but had the looks of a Shepherd (except for the ears), but i know any dog can do some kind of damage to a human.
You can bet that my dad went right into the city hall and reported the dog.
I was so freaked out. I thought Simetra had been the dog that was barking for the past few days, but that smaller Shepherd mix must have been coming over and barking at my dogs. *shudders while thinking of my pups being attacked* Now i really want to get A.j. fixed! But, we have to focus on Simetra right now. Maybe, if my mom will ever call him, the vet will hopefully give us a discount for 2 dogs of the same size.
Both the Shepherd mixed are really cute and handsome, i just wish they had good owners from the start, so they didnt turn out like this. I wonder how cute Simetra pups would be if one of the Shepherds were the father... *slaps myself for thinking that* Its not like i would let her get anywhere near them anyway.

This is so annoying though. My training with A.j. hasnt been going very good because ive been right up next to that bigger dog (he doesnt seem to be aggressive to kids as much, so he ignored me, trying to pick a fight with A.j., but A.j. had a Halti on, so i was able to keep him from making eye contact), and im sure with his size and expirience, A.j. wouldnt have a chance agianst him, and so im constantly glancing over at my neighbor's house (they dont have a fence) to watch for those dogs.

Ok, i think thats all i have to say. I just had to vent a little bit about those dogs. My dad made me realize the other day that if A.j. got in a fight with one of those dogs, i wouldnt be able to do anything, i would just have to either leave A.j. to get help or i would just have to sit and wait for it to be over.

Oh my goodness. That's awful. I can't believe they don't have a fence, yet they have two human/dog aggressive dogs. That just makes me so mad. It's an accident waiting to happen.
Thank the gods your father was ok, and I'm glad he reported the dog. It upsets me to see dogs like that because I know, like everyone else here, that dogs are a reflection of their owners and when I see dogs with problems like that I always think "what would they have been like with a decent owner?". They never got that chance though.

Oh and don't feel bad about wondering what the pups would look like. I don't think there are many of us here who haven't thought like that on the odd occasion. Not that we would actually go ahead with the breeding, we're just obsessed with dogs so it fascinates us.

Cass.

Wow! Oh gosh, it would be so scary being confronted by an aggressive dog. Your dad handled the situation very well! Some people should just never own dogs (or any animal, for that matter).

Hey, there's nothing wrong with wondering what your dog's pups would look like! The bad part is if the thought becomes a reality! ... Then you've got a lot to worry about!

How on earth did they end up with 2 aggressive dogs??!!! Geez...do you know anything about these people? Why would anyone purposely take in 2 dogs like that ...unless they had something to protect...maybe illegal?

You should put up a fence, and also tell those people what happen and if any of their dogs attack one of your dogs or your family then they will be sued. There is no reason at all for things like that to go unpunished and I hope whoever your dad reported it to will give those people a big hefty fine for having dogs loose.

Thanks, everyone! Yeah, it was pretty freaky!

Fancychicken - I kind of know the dogs' owner. A few years ago i was walking past their house during summer. I just happened to accidentally look towards their house and saw a chubby guy laying back in a recliner (i think thats what they are called), with no shirt on. That was pretty gross, ive never look at their house from the front anymore. They have a lot of junk around their house, too, so im supposing they are lazy people who dont do anything but mow their lawn. I see the man out mowing his lawn sometimes. I dont think the dogs were aggressive when they got them. From how the dogs are aggressive, it just looks like they havent been socialized and possibly abused (the smaller one took off when my dad put out a hand). But, they probably are drug dealers or something, there are a lot of them in our town because the police are too lazy to try to catch them. At least my family is uneffected, though.

Shelties - Yeah, as beautiful as those dogs are, they definantly arent safe. I know they arent purpously being aggressive. The other day one of them were standing in their yard (theres a big space between our houses because the house between us got torn down and grass got put in). I was bending over, praising Wiener for doing good on a jump, when i realized he wasnt paying attention to me, he was staring at something. So i stood up and accidentally stared straight at one of the dogs. The dog just peed on a tree then ran back into the house, though. There are a lot of kids that walk by their house, but luckly for the kids, the dogs are inside most of the time. I know 3, 7 or 8 year old kids that walk down that street almost every day. If im out training, they will talk to me sometimes, one of them accually watch Agility on tv and knows what it is. I hope none of them get attacked someday!

Calgal - We have a fence. It isnt the best fence but there arent holes in it or anything, so i think my dogs are safe if they dont get too close to the fence when the other dogs are around. At least its getting warmer so i can leave the door open when i watch tv and the dogs are out, then i can listen for any problems. Thats the problem, though, we NEVER see the people, they are always locked away in their house, along with the dogs, unless the dogs are relieving themselves outside, so i dont think id be brave enough to go up to their house, i dont even like walking past it. But, im sure my dad will do anything to let them know that we are getting very concerned and mad about their dogs running loose, if the dogs try to attack him for the 3rd time. For some reason, the dogs havent tried to attack kids, i guess they dont find them threatening, but im completely sure they would go after A.j. I havent heard what has happened, yet. My dad reported them to the city hall, so something should happen, especially since the dogs tryed to attack him twice. Im hoping the dogs get taken away from then soon, i like to let my springers loose in the grass next to our house, but it isnt fenced in and its right next to the aggressive dogs' house. So to let the springers run for just a few minutes i have to walk all the way across town to the football feild, which sometimes there are people playing football there, so i go there for nothing. *sigh* I wish we had a dog park..

Yikes that must have been freaky! Atleast your dad knew what to do when confronted with an aggressive dog... don't run!

I'd definetly have something to say to the neighbors, and I'd file a report. I don't see how anyone can enjoy having a dog that you have to keep away from anyone. How are they supposed to have family and friends over without the dogs eating them?

I don't mind a bit of barking while my dogs are out back (it's fenced anyhow), but if we're out front they are not to bark at anyone even if they are coming into our yard. If they come into the back fence, that's a completely different story, but I'm sure you get my drift. LOL

I hope you guys are able to do something about it!

I know, ive had that expirience. Sophie isnt very good in public because she barks, snaps at babies, doesnt like people to run, and is very timid. But at least we keep her confined so she cant do any damage to anyone. It is so much better feeling now, because i dont have to tighten the leash or anything when some stranger walks by me and the springers on a walk and i get comments instead of complaints. Of course Sophie still gets walks, but not in public, at least not until i get her a little better trained for public walks.

Ive never had a dog that aggressive though, Wiener and Sophie are both slightly aggressive, but mainly just from fright. They only bark if someone comes on our property (even though i wish they would stop when i tell them to), they usually dont try to bite.

Lol, yeah, i get what youre saying. Im kind of like that, too. I dont like the springers to bark, though, unless they see something suspicious (spelling?). Like im trying to get them to ignore the kids that walk by (i just found out that some of the kids are purpously teasing the springers to get them to bark ), but they can woof (they usually dont bark, they just "woof") at someone entering our property or a dog on our property. Im trying to teach them to be quiet when i check what they are barking at and say its ok. All our dogs seem to have a bark sickness lol. When they start barking at something, they just cant stop, they try to a lot of the time, but just just keep accidentally popping out a muffled bark.

No kidding. A friend of mine has a Husky/Collie mix. I don't know the dogs name, just that they took it in when the dog was young from an extreamly abusive owner. They didn't socialize it or train it, so while it is fine with them, it tries to literally kill anyone who comes up to their house. The dog ripped the door knob off of the door trying to get to the mail man. While Cody really likes his dog, I can't imagine what it would be like trying to have company over. And while the dog hates any living creature that moves, he gets along with a stray kitten they brought into the house. lol They just brought the kitten inside and plunked it down on their living room floor. Their dog came charging around the corner set on killing the thing but the kitten held its ground, the dog just ended up sniffing it, and now they have a hate/love relationship. lol The cat picks on the dog all of the time, and the dog just sits there and tolorates it. Kinda makes you wonder what clicked between them, as the dog tries to kill any other cat that comes through their yard.

That dog would be hell on four feet if he ever got loose from their house or fenced in yard.

Hopefully the dogs don't get out of their fence again and try to eat your dad or any of you! I know what it is like being constantly on edge while outside with our dogs....we don't have a fenced in yard and neither do any of our neighbors, and since everyone lets their dog run loose....I can't even enjoy taking my dogs to the far end of our yard (even if they are under my complete control) for fear of our neighbor's Lab or Boxer come out and try to either fight (in the Labs case) or play (in the Boxer's case) with our dogs...and walking them? A royal pain, as my dogs are dog aggressive and even if a friendly loose dog aproaches, a fight will insue. The only dog they got along with just passed away (R.I.P Kody), so now all of the dogs in this neighborhood are my dogs' mortal enemies....yey.

Accually, they dont have a fence at all. We do, but they dont. The only part of our yard fenced in is the dog-run type of thing we have, though, so if i want to train or just let the dogs play in a bigger area, i have to constantly be on watch and im not able to enjoy the dogs. Thankfully dogs are way shorter than me, so i see the dogs way before them so im able to grab them and put them in the fence.

I havent been doing that lately though because i just saw the smaller dog at our house agian today. The springers were going crazy so i went out there and there he was, peeing on my chair that i use as a pause table. I ran out there (staying far in the fenced area) and yelled at him, and he ran off while barking. I wanted to pick up one of Wiener's rocks and throw it at him, but i dont think i could do that. I got a better look at him, though. He accually looks like he has some Husky in him, too. He has ears that looks like a Shepherds but they flop over halfway, and he has a big, fluffy tail like Sophie's. Hes about A.j.'s size and is tan with some black markings (like a shepherd kind of). When i let the dogs out tomarrow im gonna bring my camera, maybe i can get a shot of him, just so people can see how cute (but aggressive) he is. It sucks that a lot of the dogs that have bad owners are the good-looking ones. But then, i pretty much think all dogs are cute...

And about my dad reporting them, my dad went over to the city hall, but they were "Out to lunch" (it was about 2 or 3). Shows how lazy the people in our town are. He is going to try it agian soon.

I havent seen the bigger dog for a while, he must stay in the house a lot more.
