Ha-ha

Okay, so over the weekend i was out in the front yard, some lady walks by with her ducshund ( cute dog by the way). She sees casey and was complimenting how gorgeous he is and he seems so well behave because of the way he just stayed in the yard without running off ( it's called training lady lol ).

We ended up getting into a casual conversation then i brought up about me getting a female sheltie this weekend and guess what came out of her mouth? " OH you going to breed them and have puppies? you know my daughter wants a sheltie puppy....blah blah blah". I nicely said " sorry, casey's spayed and the other sheltie is neutered"....she looked disapointed needless to say

Those stupid comments are excellent opportunities for educating! "No, I haven't done health testing and I don't plan to show. You know 5 million animals are euthanized every year because there aren't enough homes for them? I just don't have the heart to add to that problem, ya know?" Plus, you could offer to let her daughter come over and play with or hlp groom your's so she'd get some experience with the breed. That would show her mom how serious she is about wanting one, and give you even more opportunities to speak into her life about reponsible dog care. Not everyone has time for that, though.

ETA: Dang, I should get a male Yorkie or a female Greyhound (altered, of course ) so *I* can give that schpeal any chance I get!!!! LOL

Haha, hey, that's a good idea. lol The most rediculous thing I ever heard was when someone asked me of we were going to breed our dogs and have puppies...not only are they altered, one is a mixed breed! I can't believe some people. Oh, and I forgot to mention that they are related...talk about major inbreeding.

Yeah, and I love the ones who, after you've told them your dog is altered, say..."You know, you should let a b1tch have a litter before you spay her"...

I just want to wring their necks, but I usually politely say, "oh, that's just an old wives tale, it isn't really true..." but many folks just keep insisting it is...

Exactly! see, Im the type of person that don't mind a dog with a whole lot of hair. A sheltie hair is ALOT to care for, and i LOVE grooming Casey and Casey loves to be groomed, and it is a commitment. For someone like me that don't mind grooming a dog like a Sheltie doesn't mean that everyone else will. I guess you just have to really LOVE the breed in order to be able to give it the care it needs just as any other double coated dogs. Not only is keeping the coat in good condition is work, you would have to be willing to put up with all kinds of energy that a sheltie has. Casey barks, he has energy that you would not believe. He would be a lap dog for 5 minutes then he's up and moving again until the sun goes down. So I don't think the lady's daughter could put up with casey after 5 minutes
