Laws of Life

Okie dokie, for school, we have to write an essay. It's called "Laws of Life". Do any of you have some really good "laws of life" that you could recommend me? For the essay you have to choose one, and tell how you would think it would make the world a better place if everyone followed it. I was thinking of either Respect or Kindness.
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you!"

We can turn this into sort of a "debate". I would have placed it in the debate forum, but it's not about dogs.

Tell what you think might make the world a better place if people followed a simple law that goes on in everyday life (not necessarily a LAW, just like "What goes around comes around") or something of that nature and explain WHY you think it would make the world a better place. I would like to know what you all think

I believe respect and kindness would go a long way. I have been raised to respect other people and be kind to them. Unless I have a reason to be rude, I am one of the kindest people. If everyone respected eachothers values, views, thoughts, etc. I believe it would be a better place because we would all learn to live together and deal with the differences. Most people will not respect someone else's way of living. The "higher class" people tend to believe they are the best people around, and believe the "lower class" are "dirt" or "white trash". I go by the following quote very strongly. "Do unto others as you have would have them do unto you!". If you treat me nicely, I will treat you nicely. If you are rude and nasty to me, I will be rude and nasty back. If you try to walk all over me, I'll try to walk all over you. It's that simple.

I just kinda threw all that together right now LOL That will not be in my essay though, because that isn't thought out well enough.

What Law of Life do YOU think would make the world a better place?

One law that would cover it I think...
Do what ye will but harm none not even thyself.
The reason is self explanitory I believe...I think people would be a lot healthier (harm none not even thyeslef) so that means no bad stuff in the body. And people would be a lot nicer to others..

This doesn't have to do with the topic (it sorta does) but since you said this was a debate......you said, 'If you are rude and nasty to me, I will be rude and nasty back.' but earlier you said, 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.' That doesn't make sence.
If you were rude and nasty to someone, wouldn't you rather have them forgive you than have them be rude and nasty back? Also, if everybody goes by the motto, 'If you do something wrong to me, I want revenge,' wouldn't the world be an even worse place? I cause you some pain, so you cause me pain, so I cause you pain, etc. All that is left is pain, and a rotten feeling toward one another.

"Love your neighbor as yourself", because it kind of covers everything. To love others is to always shows them respect and kindness, and put them before yourself. If we put others before ourself, we would never murder (or abort babies, I believe) or even say cruel things (in a perfect world where we would be able to love others constantly). Drinking and doing drugs wouldn't be an option, because that hurts people around you, and it hurts yourself. And everyone would be equal, no segregation for any reason, no 'upper class' and 'lower class'. I also think loving yourself and others would be a motivator. Those of us who are lazy or can't hold a job due to alcoholism or whatever would be motivated to get the education necessary to support themselves, and a family. And there wouldn't be any homeless pets or people because love would motivate us to provide for those down on their luck. And if we really loved each other, there wouldn't be divorce or single parents (unless due to the death of a spouse), so children would get the best start at life, and no problems at home.

That isn't real eloquent, and obviously it would have to be an ideal world if that were to happen. Don't know if you had to stick to realistic options or not. My .02! Hope it helps, and good luck on your project!

Smile hmmmm

My whole life theory is to not regret anything because everything you did has made you the person you are today. No matter what you do you can't change the past, so suck it up and move on. When you look back on even some of the mistakes you made, you can't help but laugh when you see where those mistakes led you. This goes in line with the whole idea that your life is mapped out for you, the good, the bad, ect.

Good Luck with your Essay!

I agree with TinyAlbino. I'm a Christian and it says in the Bible that the two greatest commandments are these: Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, soul and mind and love your neighbor as yourself.

To thine own self be true. Be your real self and not a fake so what someone sees in you is what they get. If you fake others out, you soon fake yourself out and you don't know who you are. If everybody were like this, no one would know anyone and there'd be no depth or closeness. Don't be manipulative.

I read this in a book once and thought it was pretty neat

In the grand scheme of things there are two theories behind the way the universe works. Either everything that happend is predetermined and there is nothing we can do to change it. Or everything that happens is totally random and there is nothing we can do to influence it. Either way nothing we do matters, therefore all that matters is what we do.

let all your words be seasoned with salt....
This means that even if you disagree with someone you use gentleness and mildness. If we could all display these qualities the world would be a nicer place. Unfortunately as humans when riled the last thing we want to do is be nice lol
