Izzie and the black snake

Summer is going to be the death of me.
I have this rule NO DOGS OUTSIDE ALONE IN SUMMER
its a good rule as we have poisonous snakes

Today I cam home, hubby was grabbing the gun and racing out the door to shoot a snake that Isabella was keenly eying off.

I got the girls safe and hubby sent the snake to snake heaven.
Boy I cant wait till winter, this summer has been very bad for snakes

That's scary....how nerve wracking! Well, is your hubby ever able to trap a snake and take it wa-y-y-y-y off somewhere? Anyhow...glad your dog is OK.

Trouble with rehoming snakes where we live is that the dam thjings come back lol

We wouldnt kill a non poisonous snake. But the rest if they come into the yard are goners... A bite from any of them would kill my dogs even my granddaughter.. I on the other hand would die no matter what snake bit me the fright would do me in

That's a scary situation, but personally I would have called someone to come and remove it, rather than kill it (especially since they're protected in all states, making it illegal to kill them). *shrugs* BUT, if you really felt you or your dogs were in immediate danger, fair enough.

Cass.

Yup, you're right.. I'm a bit of a snake person myself. Although I would never have one as a pet.

We get snakes here during the summer as well. The pugs are NEVER allowed outside alone. I bag them and take them off somewhere when I find them. For a girl that used to go hunting, I've turned soft. LOL

Here's my first snake kill! I opened the hangar door in November and Cozy just stood there instead of going outside. That made me look and there sat a rattlesnake. I walked Cozy over to the other side of the hangar and fastened her to the desk, then went back to the snake. Last time I killed one, it wasn't really a rattler and I felt terrible. So, spade in hand, I went back to the snake. Rep. Rattles. So I try to chop it. Guess what? They're are a lot tougher than your average snake! I had to keep it pinned so it wouldn't go into the hangar and I'd never find it. Luckily, DH came by. He is afraid of snakes! I told him to get an axe and to not chop off my foot because I had the snake and he wasn't going anywhere. And he did. Whew! Long post.

Yikes Linnie and Kit!

We have an abundance of poisonous creatures here, from toads (only come out after a big rain - which we've just had) to certain lizards, scorpions, and of course snakes.. The scorpions are the most abundant, I see them quite often.. Their sting wouldn't be enough to do much damage to me, Dakota or Buster, but a scorpion sting would kill Ripley. I pretty much have a "No Dakota outside unattended" rule and a "No Ripley outside off-leash" rule. Yes, I'm paranoid, but better to be paranoid than to lose one of my boys.

I like snakes, I think they are some of the coolest creatures there are, but if it was a snake's life, or my dog's life, my dogs would get my vote.

Have I mentioned that I'm not crazy about Arizona? I still think that the desert was not meant to be inhabited by humans.

LOL when I was growing up in Wyoming, when dad was at work, often he'd find a rattler, and wind up killing it so no one got bit... he worked swing shift at a coal mine, and would come home about 1am. He'd leave the rattlers on the kitchen table for mom to find the next morning. LOL Pleasant to find freshly cut rattlers on one's kitchen table while having that hot cup of java. lol
