Poor Ronan...
...is scared of thunder! We had a thunder storm last night and poor Ronan gated every second of it! In the beginning he was pacing by the sliding door wanting out which I found odd because I know he hates thunder and usually seeks a small dark nook to wait out the storm (often OC''s crate) but thought maybe he really needed to pee so I open the door for him and he bolted out the door and straight into his doghouse! I felt kinda good that he loves his doghouse so much that he seeks it out as refuge when he is scared but I didnt wanna just leave him out there on his own during the storm especially with the kennel door still open and no one watching him so I flipped my hood up and went out into the driving rain to fetch him bck out. It took a lot of encouragement to get him out of the doghouse but he eventually followed me back to the house, both of us dripping wet. Just as I had dried him off a huge crack of thunder shook the house and Ronan high-tailed it to the basement and wedged himself between our couch and the wal which only has about a 1.5 foot gap. That is where he stayed for the rest of the night until roughly 3am when the storm stopped and I put them away in the kennel for the night. My poor silly ""manly"" pup LOL Luckily he doesnt freak out like some dogs do, he just seeks out a quiet spot and hides there for the duration of the storm. I just left him be and ignored him, only checking in on him now and then to make sure he wasnt actually stuck.
Oh ya and where was OC during all this? Laying on the kitchen floor, facing the big glass sliding door WATCHING the storm until he fell asleep. So it got me curious, what do your dogs do when it thunders? |

Sarge was SOOO afraid of thunder storms! He'd try to find a dark place to hide, while trembling. Poor Bubby... Sometimes he'd feel more comfortable if you sat on the couch next to him, and covered him up with a blanket. He stopped trembling (usually) and would go to sleep.
Sheiba gets nervous around storms. We've had some loud cracks, especially when the lightning hits down the street. She usually goes to my dads room. He keeps it really dark in there, so she finds it more comfortable. The others don't really pay any mind to it. Denali will fly off the couch to my dads room if there is a huge crack like I said. But the rest of them ignore it. Or atleast I haven't noticed them being nervous. I have no clue how Lugar is with a storm. Seeing that it's spring time, I'm sure we will start to get some storms eventually. |

A.j. doesnt seem to even notice when a storm is going on. But if its raining and hes outside he "woofs" and tries to eat the raindrops.
Sophie is scared to death of lighting storms. She will hide anywhere she can get to, and if she cant hide she sits there barking every time she hears something. Of course shes always been freaked out about loud noises. Wiener isnt afraid at all. He acts like someones knocking on the door so he just barks. Simetra isnt excited but she isnt scared of storms. The only time i saw her during a storm was when she was 6 months old, she was just sitting at the window, watching the rain and lightning. I think she thought the lightning was giant birds or something. ![]() |

Poor Ronan
Like you say though lucky he just finds a little nook to wait it out instead of destroying things like some dogs do.River only seems to notice it if it thunders when we're in bed (so the TV isn't on). He just looks up at the roof and barks then goes back to whatever he was doing! |

Aww poor Ronan!
![]() Harley used to be fine with storms, but for the past couple of years he gets quite upset when there's lightning and thunder. The first thing he usually does is run upstairs (which he isn't allowed to do), and goes and hides under my bed! He curls up and squashes himself right into the corner and doesn't come out until the storm is well and truely over.Abby is absolutely fine with storms. They don't faze her one bit! ![]() |

Reggie is fine with thunderstorms, in fact she would love to be outside watching them, if she had her way.
Winston never minded them at all.He even loved fireworks, would sit on my lap and watch them. We did own a lab once that we rescued, and we had no idea that he was afraid of load booms. We left one day and came home and he had clawed the hardwood door and trim so bad trying to get into the basement he tore off a nail. Came home to toothpicklike wood all over the kitchen floor mixed with blood. Poor baby, we never left him alone after that. It was one heck of a way to learn he was petrified of storms. |

we had our first little thunder rumble the other night...nothing major. Shelby couldn't care less about it....Trixie just looked around trying to figure out where that noise was coming from. But it wasn't a major one so i don't really know what trixie will do yet.

Dutchess is terrified of thunderstorms. If they happen at night she climbs in bed w/ us shaking and panting. Its awfull. One night we had gone out to dinner not expecting a storm and one blew up out of nowhere. We rushed out of there and got home as fast as we could but she had wedged her head and front leg through the cat door to the basement. Her leg was all torn up from that. On stormy days we try to leave the stereo up loud so she can't hear it. She is losing her hearing so its not so bad now.
Zuki is not afraid at all which is really a shocker since he is afraid of just about anything else you can imagine! |

I have one scared of thunder. Storm sensitivity can be an issue in some breeds, and it is in mine. My boy's mother's fear of storms killed her. She got out during a storm and bolted, and ended up on the freeway, jumping on cars trying to get into them where it was safe. She was hit and killed.
I try very hard to breed away from storm sensitivities... and just a note: I have heard of dogs so afraid that they jump right through glass windows - this kind of over-the-top fear can be a sign of thyroid disorder. |

Rose is like Ronan. When she knows a strom is coming, she will either not come out of her dog house, or she'll go into our garage and try to slip inside the house whenever a door is open. If I'm walking them or letting them out to use the bathroom when a storm is near, she sticks to me like glue. If it thunders, she'll either high-tail it back to the house or stick even closer to me.
She doesn't really panic, but she won't eat or drink until the storm is passed and while it is passing she is in secure dark place. Blackie couldn't give a hoot either way. A storm doesn't faze him at all. Sadie didn't care either, but if we were outside and it would thunder, she'd look up at the sky and then at me like, "Where in the heck is that noise coming from?" LOL |
