They are 6 weeks old and I don't know what age would be good to start crate training them.

Hi luckydog.
Heres a link to the dog Article section with a thread about potty training written by: Flyndog aka-Kit http://www.globalpaw.com/article.php?a=8 Heres a link to a thread about crate training that may be helpful to you. http://www.globalpaw.com/showthread....crate+training (House Training for a new puppy) I used the crate to train Mia and she has done wonderful with it. She knows where to go when its bedtime. |

Start using it right away and let them go in and out. They can have their meals in there) Don't slam the door on them....just let them go in and out whenever you don't have to lock them in. You can also give a treat and a command each time you assist them or one of them or ask them to "go to bed" or "crate." (whatever) Have toys there.(safe ones) And never use it as a punishment. Associate it with a happy, quiet time in their own little den.
Congrats on the new pups. Ithink it would be very difficult to raise two pups at the same time. You may need more help. LOL. Very brave of you. LOL |

Wow Lucky, that's quite a lot to take on. LOL. One puppy is enough for me, and I adore dogs, so you are braver than I.
![]() A good age to start crate training would be as soon as you get them home.. Make it your routine. BTW, You don't have them, yet, do you? 6 weeks is far too young, particularly for the smaller breed puppies, to be taken from their mother. |

someone sold you six week old puppies? I wish i could say i was shocked but unfortunately it happens much too often. Please people dont buy puppies that are weaned before eight weeks. Early weaning is a huge welfare issue, its much better for everyone involved to wean later.

I agree with you, Bellfounder. But, actually, there has been evidence that 49 days is the optimum time to leave home. I don't necessarily agree with that and like to see puppies stay with the (reputable) breeder until about 12 weeks. We don't know the reason why Luckydog has 6 week old pups. Maybe they are rescues or the dam rejected them?

My mistake. I called the owner yesterday to find out their birthdate and they are actually 8 and a half weeks old
and yes I do have pics. but they won't load for some reason They are both Ruby English Toy Spaniels and the females name is Duchess and the males name is Bandit. They haven't been too much trouble so far. They are pretty well behaved little puppies. And thankfully Lucky is doing EXTREMELY well with them. We keep Lucky and the puppies separated with a baby gate though because we don't want Lucky to accidentally step on them or something but we will let them all play together when the puppies get older. Thank you all for the encouragement and help It really means a lot! |
