Unhappy Just got back from the pound

Oh you guys..It was terrible. The first thing I saw when I walked in was (of course) qa pure bred Pit Bull..(White and Tan). I stayed with him the whole time and aShley walked around just looking. Well he llooked like he had been fought and she said his owner said htat he was going to come back and get him, but never has. So I am going to call the dog catcer tommorow. And see if I can adopt him. I wish I would have taken my camera. They had him locked up with locks and chains bc some people jump over the fences and steal teh pitbulls. So I'm going to call tommorow and see if I can adopt him. But anyway.. off that subject..the woman up there was a volunteer and was very sweet. But me and ASh went to look at the puppy section.. and to our surprise ...there were two dead litte puppies. They were froze to death We were so sad about them. But we asked the woman and she said she had been complaining about the pups for a long time. So she said it would help alot if we got our parents to complain about it as well. So we are. We are going to start volunteer work up there. So its going to get better. The woman who was up there brought some blankets to put in hte drop box. But me and AShley are going to bring lots of blankets/towels/clotyhes and all that to put in their dog houses.. and toys and stuff..WEll i gotta go..

Oh Southern girl, that is so sad. That is an awful lot for you and your friend to go through in one day. I think what you are doing in volunteering is wonderful. I just know you'll make a huge difference.

About the pit bull that you may adopt...What is he like? Is he ruined from his past? Do you know if he has aggression problems with people or with dogs? What about your dog at home? Do be careful and spend time evaluating him. And maybe first, if you think he's going to be ok, foster him first.

I think that's the saddest story. And you are wonderful to want to help. Let us know how things go.

How sad.... I check our local animal shelters site every morning... I can't go up there, I get too emotional. Last time I was up there was to put my name on a little fawn female pug, who on her last day before I would have gotten her, was picked up by the family of the person. From how the animal shelter lady talked when she called and told me the pug was gone, she was NOT happy - she did not like the people who took the dog, but couldn't stop them, because they had the papers proving it belonged to a family member. The pug was taken up to Idaho I guess.
Time before that (last February) was when I went up to the shelter and saw Bentley for the first time. He was so scared, in a kennel with all those huge barking dogs all around him. I put my name down, but I was 2nd on the list, and I went out to the car and cried and cried, because I KNEW I wouldn't get him... someone else had their name down before me. I never thought I'd see him again... then rescue calls me in June about a pug needing a home and it was HIM. I'll never forget that. Never.

Oh gosh Pugdog. That is all such an emotional issue. It's horrifying what some of these dog must have gone through and are going through while waiting for someone to save them. I'm so glad you got Bently. How wonderful. No wonder you'll never forget all that.

Awe how sad..

Carrie-Well I only got to pet him through bars bc he was locked with chains and locks. So people couldnt jump the fence and get him. Because many people jump the fence and steal them and fight them. All he did the whole time was lick me and try to play! He appeared to have a wonderful personality. He definitally wasnt ruined from his past he appeared to be very friendly to all the other dogs in the other kennels besiide him. He just wanted out. As for chance. He hasnt been running off any and we are going to get him a exersise kennel soon..he really needs a friend to play wih him when i cant. I will bring him home first and see how it all goes.. if it doesnt go well.. We will have to find him a better home. But even if it doenst work out, I would rather find him a home myself, then let the dog catcher decide. I hope that man doesnt come back up there and get him bc i think he was fighting him. But i think hje amy have to go back to his old owner. But we are going to call first thing tommorow and complaion about the dead puppies..ask about the pittie.. and ask when we can start our volunteer work..

That is heartbreaking and too common in many communities without a privately funded Humane Society. The more knowledgable volunteers the better for the dogs because those volunteers can try and fight "City Hall". You might not win, but you could make citizens aware of the need for a place to HUMANELY care for (and perhaps dispose of) the animals. I'm glad you are able to help!

Well we are definitally going to complain about it. But..I really want that Pit Bull. He was so sweet and wanted out of the cage so bad. Everytime I left him.. hhe would try to chew through the b ars. I'm praying that the guy wont come back and get him. He deserve's a great life and a great owner and I think I can b that owner and give him that life. I dont know what to do if that man gets him back.. But he may not want him to bad bc he said he was going to get him about two days ago and hasnt. Maybe h will forget or be a procrastinator and put it off. Or at least I hope. I cant wait to start working up there. *erin*

Erin, I hope you can get the pitty! He sounds like a sweet little boy. Hopefully his owner will not want him... I wish you the best of luck, and kudos to you for trying to help the little guy and the others you talked about. Keep us posted!

That is so sad to hear about the Pittie.......stupid people......ruining a perfectly good dog that could have been great, if they hadn't stepped in and messed him all up........ugh....

I was looking at our Shelter's website and the have at least 8 more new dogs than yesterday. And about half of the dogs that are new are puppies.....mostly GSD mix or Lab mix.....that just saddened me knowing that since yesterday, 8 more dogs are in need of a home. I want to go and look at the dogs in the shleter so bad to see if their are any there that 'click' if you know what I mean, but I don't think my mom would take me.....maybe me and my bro could go......(even though he tech. isn't alowed to have a passenger in the car for another 2 months.....lol)

Anyways, I'm sorry for you and the Pitte........

Thanks.. I wish there was something I could do. But I cant put my other dogs in danger. He was acting so good with all the other dogs (and me and ASh) yesterday he was rubbing against me and letting me pet and play with him .I guess that dog was a threat or something.

Ya....maybe he is like Blackie. With certian dogs he'll get along fine with, but other dogs that he know causes pain (like our neighbor's two Aussies, our other neighbor's Blue Heelers, and a Lab in the back of a pickup truck that passes us on our 7:00am walks in the summer) he tries to eat them before they eat him. I think dogs can tell, which dogs have hurt them in the past. Same goes with the people. And also, the other dog could have started the fight. And then, being a Pittie, he was happy to acknowledge the challange.....anyways, through and through it is the dumb 'owners' fault......
