"Nothing is ever easy"

Our walk for the day.
Ok, I just got back from walking our dogs. So here is the story:
We just has snow so the roads are kinda slippery. I have both of the dogs on leash (Blackie has his Choke Chian on) and they are practicly dragging me down our lane. They eventually calmed down once we got out on the road. (This is a country road that is hardly ever used.) Well, I've walked about 3/4 of a mile and I decide to turn around because my cheeks and legs were freezing. (It is only about 20F here.) Well, on our way back home we pass by our neighbors mailbox. Blackie wanted to go pee on it, but I wouldn't let him because he has got to get out of the habit of dragging you to every tree in sight to pee on it while we are on our walks. So Blackie starts going to the mailbox and I said, 'No.' and gave his leash a sideways snap like you are supposed to do when you have the Choke Chian on. Blackie stops, looks at me, and then starts pulling with all of his might toward the mailbox. He drags me about one foot, and then I regain my footing and tell him No agian. I start walking forward (poor little Rose was just standing there waiting for us to hurry up so she could walk) and then Blackie sits down right in the middle of the road, refusing to move. I try calling him to me and tugging on his leash and he still wouldn't budge. Not only that but then he laid down in the middle of the road so if I did try to pull him, he would just roll over and my effort would go to waste. I finally was able to get him to start going by saying in an excited voice, "Come on Blackie! Let's go run!" and then I took off running. He got up and followed me. All of the way home, he kept on trying to go over to the edge of the road to pee (about every two feet ) but he got a leash snap every time he tried. Then when we were back in our lane, he started to go over to the edge of the road agian to pee on a tree, but he took maybe two steps and then stopped and looked at me, then back at the tree. I said, 'Nope. Were not going pee right now. Let's go.' So he came and didn't try to go over to the trees to pee. (I eventually let him though. He was doing such a good job at walking by me that that was his reward! To go pee on a tree! lol)So that is my story for the day. And on the walk Rose was a perfect little angel! (Man that was long.......lol ) |

A-w-w-w....the little stinker. Maybe you need some treats in your pocket ready, just in case he pulls that again. (not that you reward him for it, but that once he does decide to come along, then a treat might reinforce that nice manuver) LOL. How embarrassing if a car came along and he wouldn't get out of the middle of the road. LOL. But that's good....a little lesson in not peeing on everything in sight. Aren't they weird sometimes? LOL.
Well, Rose sounds like she just wants to take a walk. Period. I bet she gets irritated with Blackie. Too bad she doesn't have a talk with him. LOL. Sounds like a nice, brisk walk....20 degrees...hmmmm, it's warmed up here to a balmy 32 or so....making a mess out of our once, nice, powder. Thanks for the little story. Nice. |

Ya, Rose wants to walk. She won't stop for anything. She knows that on a walk, you are supposed to walk. I think Blackie thinks the walks are 'pees'. lol
It was also really funny one time. Jacob (my 16yr old bro) was going to help me walk the dogs since Mom couldn't (this was during the summer/fall time) so I gave him Rose to walk, since Blackie can be a jerk and Jake doesn't know how to handle and correct a dog the best. Anyways, Rose always pulls a little when we walk (it isn't a pull pull, just a slight tug never ending.) and Jake didn't like her pulling. So he started to jog with her. Rose was like, "Oh my gosh, I'm in heaven!!! Somebody is actually jogging with me!!!!' and when Jake stopped jogging she started to pull agian, and so Jake started milking it for all it was worth and was acting like she was pulling really hard and he was pretending to be dragged. It was just really funny seeing a 6' 2'' guy being pulled by a dog that is about the size of a Chow. (Even if it was fake.) lol |

Aw! Silly pup. I walk Colby and May together, and at first I'll let them sniff around, do their thing, whatever, but once we're approaching our destination (most times the park), I can't stand them sniffing, because I just want to GET GOING! LOL. Once we reach the park (or some other destination), they're allowed to sniff and diddle to their hearts content until it's time to leave. Tippy is walked seperately, and she's more of the "Oh boy, a walk! Let's run the whole way!" kind of dog. She'll sniff if she wants to, but it's usually just, "Let's go, you crazy human!" with the occasional...."I think that Peke mix was by here a few days ago..."
![]() Anyways, great story! So funny. |
