cragarmom, lol! Once my dad went and bought a bunch of raw chicken for our dogs, and the checkout person said, "Wow...you must really like chicken, eh?" he said, "Oh, no, actually it's for our dogs." and she gave him the "You are WEIRD." look.

We've done that, too - Cragar was on antibiotics about a year ago, and they were really doing a number on his digestive system. He was on them for a total of 30 days - so during that time we fed him hamburger and rice or chicken and rice so it was easier on his belly. Anyway, when the people at the grocery store (cashier + people in line) heard that I was buying 2 family packs of ground sirloin and a huge bag of rice for my dog, they looked at me like I was a mental patient!
I kind of feel bad for them that they just dont "get it". |

I do lots of things non-doggy people think are gross
Since I do not have a problem with my Whippet, Hannah, knowing who is the boss in the family, I share my bed with; let her take a bite of food off my silverware when I feel like it (She also knows it's impolite to stare while I eat. She'll turn her face away if I say "bad manners!"); I share a hairbrush w/her (even though she's smooth coated-she just likes the way it feels to be brushed); I let her lick plates after I'm done eating (she doesn't get food that's bad for her); here's one that's sure to gross people out...I'll lick her back.

And I thought I was a besotted dog owner.
There are a few things i couldnt do...!/ feed them from my plate 2/ share an icecream...one lick for me one lick for them lol In saying that I have my suspicions that Izzie helps herself to my milo when I am not looking and I just pretend I dont know.. but whenever I leave a cuppa on the bedside table for a few min and come back she is licking her lips over the top of the cup. Its not the germy thing that bothers me I have just never shared cups plates etc even whith my hubby. |

LOL - this thread is funny!
I've also let Cragar drink out of my water glass - he just sticks his little snout down the glass and drinks it... I think he thinks my water is better than his water!!! The only time I get a little bit grossed out is after Cragar has eaten his food... he doesn't eat dry food (refuses to, always has since he was little), he eats canned or the pouches with meat strips and gravy... Anyway, after he's eaten his food with gravy, his beard is all mushed up (which is why we often call him smoosh-moosh)... sometimes he'll want to give kisses right away or have some of my water. Kisses, I can probably deal with...but the water-drinking??? Bleh! I'll wash his beard first, and then let him drink!! |

ugh - i must say that i'm very averse to dogs in the kitchen. None of mine are allowed in there, especially at meal times. The rest of the house they get the run of, as long as they arent on the beds but they are definately not allowed in the kitchen!

I guess it might have to do with how one was raised. My parents always had the dogs in the kitchen and didn't mind them hanging around the table with their chins on our laps even. LOL. In fact, they were suppose to stay in the kitchen and not go in the living room. They could go in the rec room or our bedroom, but not the living room. My dogs can go anywhere but have to do a down stay about 8 feet or more from the table at meal time when I have guests. It's just too interesting to them while I'm cooking. They have to help, especially Lyric, who can almost see what's cookin' in the pot on the stove. He's like a little kid who wants to get right in there and "help." LOL. I love it...love their curiosity and companionship. Besides, I'm in the kitchen a lot. I am not too worried about germs that way. I don't think they have germs...they're just too precious to have germs. |

My girls are allowed everywhere but the dining room/living room and one bedroom (believe me this was not my decision). They eat in the kitchen and are allowed to stay out while we eat, but we don't really appreciat them when we're cooking, because they ALWAYS get in the way. Tippy is the one that just loves to be in the middle of every single event. She likes to watch as we put something on the stove...she lies by the sink and stays there when we go to wash our hands....so I try to keep her nearby, but in a down-stay position.
