Scared (may not graduate) *update: not graduating*

Update: I'm not graduating. I need that one class, and of course they don't tell me in time for me to start any of the late start classes (those started a month ago). I'm crying my eyes out. This is so not fair, and there's nothing I can do about it.

You've all probably seen my count-down to graduation in my signature. I'm going for my AS degree and applied to graduate this June. I got my letter in the mail today and it said that to graduate I need to complete my units in progress (no problem there), and 3.0 units (one class) under Category V: Analytical Thinking/Mathematics. So I freak out and am trying to see through tears to figure out if I missed something and DIDN'T complete a class under Category V. I did, so I call the evaluator, but she's "away from her desk" (and it's 4:30 here, so probably out of the office for tonight). So I've sent her an e-mail, too. So now I get to wait to find out if I'm actually going to graduate! I feel like my life is hinging on this. I hate school, I'm barely making it through this semester I'm so burnt out and now this... And my dad's all excited about me graduating. He's even set aside money to buy my cap and gown (he's making me walk even though I don't want to ). Everyone I know knows I'm graduating this summer. I hate this!

Just had to tell someone. Thanks for reading/listening!

I'm sorry you're uncertain about this whole thing. Having to wait makes it that much worse!

Best wishes to you!

Hang in there! Things just might work out - I know that this has happened to some of my friends before as well, so you aren't alone.

I'm really sorry to hear that you're having a stressful time right now. I know the schooling system is different in America than it is here in Australia, but I do know how you feel. I was so stressed out during my final year of school. Hang in there though, you'll be able to work something out, I'm sure.

I lucked out and had an awesome advisor during my undergrad...I completely forgot about taking a forgein language...and like 3 days into my last semester he called me up and was like....hey! You have to take a language, you have German at 2pm today. If he hadn't done that, I wouldn't have graduated either. Most people don't have the luxury of a truly wonderful advisor.

I hope if all works out...I've found that as low down as it may seem...crying in front of the necessary people will sometimes work. so hang in there, and work on your persuasive skills

Is there anyway you can take that class as a summer class?

They might let you still walk if you swear up and down to ace the summer course.

yeah, that's a pretty common practice....at least here in PA anyway. My university stopped having a sumer commencement, so people that had to take some summer course work could either walk the previous spring or the following fall...whichever they choose

I'm sorry to hear you aren't going to be able to graduate...It sounds like something your advisor definitely should have caught...so maybe you can work something out so they'll let you walk and then complete your last course.

I know the burned out feeling. I changed my major once in college (from nursing to psych) so that added a year to my time to graduate. Fortunately, I had a great advisor that worked out my minor and coordinated things so I could graduate as soon as possible. Hang in there because it's worth it!

Whenever you graduate, definitely walk across that stage. I didn't think it was that big of a deal as an undergrad but I really felt so proud when the actual day came.

I believe they'll let me walk either way. I have an excellent GPA so it's not like they have to worry about me failing that last class after I graduate. I have a call into a counselor to go in and go over things and straighten them out. The evaluator just keeps confusing the heck out of me, and she recommended seeing a counselor if I need to, too.

Ewarp, I could take the class over summer, but I think that would be worse for me. If I take it in Fall I can take it where they cram it into 6 weeks, and that's what I'd want--just to be done with it ASAP. If I take it this summer I'm going to end up bringing school on summer vacation, and that just makes me feel worse about the whole thing. So we'll see what the counselor says and pray they can straighten this out.

KennelMom- thanks for the encouragement to walk. Part of me thinks I'll regret it if I don't, and the other part of me always hates to "make a big deal" out of things (I have an introvert personality, so all that attention makes me uncomfortable!). I'm going to walk whenever I do graduate.

Thanks for your support everyone. I think the next appt. the counselor has is Tuesday or I may be able to get a walk-in appointment Monday because I'm on campus for class that morning anyway (their recording says they have a limited number of same day appointments available every day, first come first served). So I'll let y'all know what happens. I'm not going to worry about it in the meantime.
