Does Your dog/dogs travel well?
Maggie May travels like a dream. Simply because I take her with me to my dads every other weekend. Its a three hour trip down and back but she does well. She had a big dog pillow in the back of the element and sleeps the whole way and doesent hardly need a bathroom break. She has also stayed at other relatives and hotels. Everyone always compliments me on what a well behaved and quiet dog I have
. Dozer is also an awesome traveler for his size. Though he is more prone to pace and such in the car he is for the most part well behaved. Tucker (my moms dog) on the other hand is a nightmare. He gets caresick and also just full out panics in the car . Though he rarely ever needs to go for a ride. Our vet is just down the road (10 minute walk) and thats all we would need to have him in the car for. So how do your pets travel? |

Jesse's a really good traveller. He does get a bit annoyed after a few hours but that's fixed by letting him out to stretch his little legs to have a sniff around and go for a pee.

Missie and Aysa travel like they've done it all their lives (Missie has, don't know about Aysa). Missie settles into her carseat and sleeps unless she needs to go potty or gets tired of being in the car for whatever reason. Aysa just lays down in the back and only causes trouble when he tries to come towards the front of my minivan to be closer to me (aww!). Ollie took some training, but he does pretty well now. He has a hard time riding in the carseat because he just wants to be on my lap all the time, so I have to ignore him or he thinks he gets to come out. lol
Missie has been known to get car sick when my dad drives too fast up to the mountains, but don't we all... LOL Aysa did throw up after being in the car the last time, but it had been a long, stressful day, so I don't know that it was the car. |

Saboo and Hippo both do.
They ride calmly in the car. They both camp well. Saboo does hotels very well- I haven't tried with Hippo yet. Saboo used to ride in my backpack while I rode my bike. I also used to use it to smuggle her on public transportation- she was an angel! |

Abbey, Muffin, & Mufasa

Muffin loves car rides. If I'm taking her for a ride and we go out to the car, if the window's open, she tries to jump in through it, lol.
Abbey's really calm... she just sits in the passenger seat and sniffs out the window. Mufasa hates car rides. He whines when I put him in the car and tries to walk onto my lap lol. |

Abby is a pro when it comes to travelling in the car. She's been on 10 hour car trips before, and has been such a star!
She just curls up on the seat and goes to sleep. Harley, on the other hand, is a monster! He has what I like to call 'hyperventilation attacks'. He won't stop crying, he paces back and forth from one window to the next, he barks, won't stay still and acts super anxious. I dread having to take him in the car, and luckily that's not very often! I don't know why he's like this but he's been this way his whole life. |

Let me put it to you this way... When Mazie sees me put my shoes & socks on and walk out my bedroom door with car keys in hand, she's down the stairs and standing by the door before I can get down. And then I ask the ultimate question: "Do you want to go for a ride?" ... She knows exactly what it means and she will not leave me alone until I leash her up and take her outside. Once in the car, she's up with her hind legs on the back seat with her front on the center arm rest in the front, soaking up attention.. once we hit the highway and start going at highway speeds, she either curls up in the passenger seat (if I'm the only person in the car) or she'll curl up in the back... she's partial to the spot directly behind the driver's seat, so if anyone sits there, prepare to have a dog in your lap..
She's gone 5 - 6 hours in the car without having to stop - I, however, am usually complaining about car-butt after 2 hours, so we usually try to stop as often as that. ![]() |

Trixie and Shelby both just sleep in the back seat. it's really cute when I have both of them because trixie ends up resting her head on shelby. (my car is kinda small). When Trixie was a wee pup, I made her lay on her bed on the floor of the passenger seat. but now she's too big and lays on a bed on the back seat. People that come in my car think I sleep there because there's always a dog bed back there and a sheet covering the seat...hehehe

Brandy's a little nervous at first, but nothing too bad. Once we get moving a bit, she sits/lies down and is fine. She might jump up on and off, but she doesn't bother me.

I freaked out on my friend a few weeks ago because I told her that it is extremely dangerous/careless/irresponsible to have your dog ride in the truck bed uncrated. I told her its even a little dangerous to let your dog hang its head out the window (have you ever got hit in the face by a bug at 60 mph? imagine it hitting you in the eye! what about a rock!) She said she's never had a problem...I said that's great, but do you want to take the risk of a problem arising? What if your at a stop light and your dog sees something worth going after and jumps into traffic! I think she got my point, but she tried to pretend like there was nothing wrong with the way she does it. I told her, its just my opinion, but that she'd be wise to do the same.

I love Mandi in the car
She jumps right in (I am too lazy to pick her up everytime lol) and just lays down and sleeps. She particularly likes to lay on my neck...but she is fine in my lap. If there is an empty seat in the car--it is hers . She love to sleep in the bucket seats! When we stop for a long period of time (stoplights, etc) she will lift her head up and check things out, but thats about it. And...she knows the sound of the keys means we are going somewhere. She will stand there and STARE at me, untill I say "comin'??" LOL She does the same thing at the door. She will stand a few feet back and just STARE forever untill you ask her if she is comin'. I love my puppy! ![]() |

Fuzzbutt attack

My dogs are angels in the car. If I tell them they can jump in, they hop in, find a seat, lay down, and asnooze away. Blackie has been in a crate before in the van, but Rose never has, so I don't know how well that would work. They also haven't been for very long car rides (maybe an hour at most), but I think they would tolorate it extreamly well.
Sadie was a good girl in the car. She thought that the place to ride was in your lap (bad me for holding her when she was cute and little!) and she was never completely happy unless she was on your lap. (Quite amusing when she was 60lbs. lol) When we first got her and we were bringing her back home, she slept the intire 6 hour car ride (one my lap lol) with only two or three potty breaks and a one hour play session while we ate lunch. On the way back up to Michigan, she slept most of the six hour car ride, either sprawled out in the back seat with my friend and I or up riding shotgun. She was an angle in the car, but as soon as we got to our hotel....Jeez! She was one psyco pup, to say the least. lol |
