Well once you know what breed, its not tough. I'm not sure where you live but most cities/towns have some conformation drop in classes. You can start going to dog shows now if you like. I have shown a few times, its time consuming with a puff ball, I'm jealous when I look at the vizslas being shown near me.

Good luck with it Roman. I always wanted to show in conformation too, never got the chance when I was younger (might still be able to do it in the future), but I'm more hung up on dog sports now.

You'll have to post us a list of the dogs you're considering...for no reason, just cause we're curious and love talking about it.

Cass.

I plan to show in conformation in a few years. Well maybe sooner actually it all depends on when my Clumber Spaniel puppy is born. And its looking like the breeder I have found will not be having a litter for anouther year! But im willing to wait because that is the breed I really want to show.

Can't wait to see what breed you end up going with Roman - I think part of the fun is picking one isn't it!

That sounds awesome... and fun!! I love conformation showing and am so glad I decided to start up with my own dogs as an adult. And yes, you're right, the east coast has a ton of dog shows.

If you want, you can check the AKC site (www.akc.org) and search out the "point schedule" listing. Look up your state, i.e. district, and see how many dogs you need in the ring to make up points, or a major (3, 4 or 5 points). This will give you an idea of how popular the breed is in your area at this time.

For example... I believe the schedule for Weims in Wi right now is 2, 3, 6, 9 and 12 or something like that for dogs. So, you need 6 dogs for a major in dogs... bitches is a bit higher... but if you look at numbers, say for PA, the numbers are much higher, because more are being shown in that area. Numbers are way lower in SD because fewer are being shown there. It might be useful in giving you an idea of competition and local mentors/breeders. Just an idea.
