Angry
Im so angry and upset at the moment. This afternoon I asked my friends husband (they live next door) if he would come and help me catch a little fledging that my Chi's were chasing in my garden, they had chased one the day before and the poor little thing had died so didn't want the same thing to happen to this one. Anyway he came into the garden and all my little ones went running up to greet him. I have just got two more puppies they are 16 weeks old and still at the nipping stage. I've got this little bird cornered and was watching it to make sure none of my dogs started to chase it again, suddenly I heard John say "don't you bite me" then one of the pups yelp, grrrr As I start to say something he says that he's given the pup a slap, I'm telling him that Bo is only a pup and that is what they do. Do you know I am so angry I can hardly write this, how dare he hit one of my dogs
. He is known for hitting his own beautiful Alsation by the way but my Chi's are tiny compared to his dog and he could have really hurt Bo. I have never ever lifted my hand to any of my dogs in my life I'm crying tears of anger and frustration at the moment, I have never been violent in my life but I feel I just want to hit him right now. Thing is though, my friend knows nothing of this and if she found out she would be very upset but I don't know how I'm going to be able to keep avoiding him (as I never want to speak to him again) before my friend notices something is wrong. Anyway thank you for listening and letting me have a rant and getting it off my chest. |

Oh my.
Is the puppy okay? If you raise a hand does he flinch? I'm so sorry that this happened, that man would never be allowed in my yard ever again. Did you tell him to leave right then? I would have given him a firm slap for being such an ***! I remember a man I know did something akin to this to Ra when he was little. I was still teaching Ra not to jump up, but he had never met this man before and he was ignoring Ra, so Ra started to jump and he kneed him right in the chest. Made me so mad my heart beat hurt and I couldn't say a thing. I swear I just stared at him before ushering him out of the room Ra was in. Such disrespect. |

Wow, I'm a quiet, shy person, but that would have sent me off the rails. Quite apart from the fact he hit your dog, he hit a Chihuahua PUPPY! Geezuz! He could have killed it. I'd be telling him straight out what could have happened and threatening him with police and the RSPCA if he ever touched your dogs again, OR if you ever saw him hit his own dog again. Then I would refuse to speak to him and I would tell his wife exactly what happened.
That's just absolutely unacceptable and disgusting. Makes me want to cry. ![]() Cass. |

WOW! I could imagine your frustration!
My mom is normally a very nice person about things, but one time she had to get very rough with a friend of ours who came over. He's an "old backwoods, redneck" kind of guy. He has a pit/boxer mix who's 12 years old. He takes wonderful care of her. However, one day Lugar came to greet him and accidentally hit him in the 'jewels'. Richard smacked him. My mom left it alone. But the next day he came over, he was sitting on the couch and Lugar came over to say hello, and he backhanded him across the face. My mom opened her mouth and said "Don't EVER hit my dogs. There's no need for it, and it's not the way we raise them". He didn't say anything after that and hasn't done anything like that since. My mom didn't tell me though until I was rough housing with Lugar one day. I smack his butt around, a bit hard but it doesn't hurt him at all. He enjoys it. LOL But that's what brought it up, and she told me not to do it in front of him because she didn't want him to think we were hitting the dogs for the heck of it. I would not speak to that man at all, and I would have been right on the phone with my friend to tell her what happened. |

Poor puppy
I would have a really hard time keeping quiet if someone did that to my dog. That is just not acceptable. I think you should let your friend know what her husband did so that it never happens again. |

I've had to rescue fledglings too from my dogs every spring. I just put the dogs in the house then caught the babies and put them up on a limb in a tree, the parents came by and continued to feed it. Problem solved.

Ugh, that would have boiled my blood as well. I don't think that anyone has ever hit our dogs before, but if they would have, I would have flipped out on them. I've went off on some old neighborhood girls before because they were extreamly rough with Rose (no hitting or anything, just....rough).
Actually, I think the only person I've yelled at for hitting one of the dogs was my younger sister, Melanie. I was walking Blackie behind our feild with Rose running loose and Mel just comes up and smacks Blackie as hard as she could on his side. Blackie took it all in good stride; it didn't even faze him. He just looked at her with a happy look on his face. But I wasn't as happy with it and I started yelling at Mel to NOT do that and why she shouldn't. I actually made her start to cry and she said, "All I wanted to do was make him go faster." So then I showed her the proper way to make a dog go faster...clicking your tounge and praising. See, no hitting needed. Ugh, and hitting a puppy....it is bad enough to do it to an older dog, but a dog as fragile both mentally and physically as a puppy...that makes me even more sick. ![]() |

Thank you everybody, all of you. Bo (Mr Bojangles, his full name) is, OK. One of my other friends came round this afternoon, normally he runs up to her tail wagging as he's met her loads of times but not today, he just kept barking at her and skirting around her. He'll be fine though we have been giving him loads of cuddles today so he'll soon forget. I'm sure he was shocked more than anything else, we have never shown any of our dogs any violence ever so the poor little babe must have been wondering what on earth was happening to him. Bo is the biggest of my Chihuahua's and as such is a lot chunkier and stronger so I suppose in a way it is beter that it was him (grrr, it shouldn't have been any of them) at least he could cope with it if it had been one of my tiny ones well it daren't think. I am going to let my friend know, but she (and he was up until now) is a very good friend and am going to have to try and not upset her, it's not her fault that he is such a bully. But if we do fall out over this then what will be will be, my dogs are more important to me than anything.
