Agility...maybe

Well yesterday me and Erin set up a "Home made" agility course for Cheyenne and Chance...well Chance did jump but he didn't really like it...Cheyenne was jumping really good but she is slow about it....Anyone got tips on how to increase her speed...and any tips on training her for agility....We are going to our neighbors house tommorow..they have a real agility course set up and we are gonna work her on that.

A dog will only do what it feels like doing so all a handler can do is encourage to the max using their voice and the dog's favourite treats. If a dog doesn't want to go fast, it simply won't LOL Oh you could also try, if the dog goes really fast give it it's all time favourite treat, if it goes kinda slow give it a treat it still likes a lot, but doesn't crave.

Cheers!

Yeah, I agree with OC. Also If they don't appear to enjoy it, I would give it a couple more tries, and if there is no change then try something else. These things have to be fun for both the dog and owner otherwise it just turns out to be hard work and a real pain.

I agree with OC and His Masters Voice. If they don't have fun doing it, try a different sport.

Cheyenne is probably going slow on the jumps because she is unsure of it. If you just recently introduced jumping to her, I wouldn't worry about speed. First, teach her the command "jump", and then after you can send her over with one "Jump" command while you're 5 feet or so away, you can start trying to build speed.

I have had great luck building Ripley's speed in agility by shaping it.. But right now you don't need to worry about her speed, she just started learning!
