Where is your dog when you have to go out?

Hello!

Just wondering where everyones dogs are when you are out?

Peanut is nearly 6 months old and he goes in his crate when I go out, I make sure I am never longer than 4 hours and if I am going to be then I take him to day care.

Eventually I would like to let him roam the house, but at the moment, he still has potty accidents if I am not watching, and I have 2 adult cats and they and Peanut do not get along, and he likes to chew so would be scared he may chew a cable or something!

I crate Jenny with her kong and PB every single time I go out. Keeps her safe and everything safe. Plus, she loves her crate and now the option of bringing her safe and secure den with us when we go places is available. So she feels safe no matter where we are, this is a lifesaver when we go to grannies, I wouldn't trust her alone loose in a strange place. Plus she'd eat the cat food!

Yeah crates are good! I have one at mine and at my sisters as I am there often (and I have 2 small nephews).

I think Peanut likes it! I say "kennel up" and he runs in there and waits for his treat! And the past 2 nights, when I have gone up to bed, he is in there waiting before I have even said anything!

How much pb do you put in the kong? I am worried as I don't want to give him the urge to poop if he eats too much, he did this once with a small bone and its worried me ever since! I usually just give him a small treat but I would like to give him his kong in there. He usually has ziggies in there as they keep him occupied for ages, he finished the peanut butter so quickly!!

When I leave my dogs are in their room. If I am going to be gone longer than an hour, I close the dog door, and they stay inside. If I am only going to the store really quickly, i leave it open.

They sleep in our room, but during the day we have a webcam setup so we can watch them and see what they are doing. Kenzie did start out though in a crate until we felt comfortable leaving our two dogs alone together. We will follow this same model for every dog, to get them used to a crate first of all and second to make sure we can trust them. We make sure there is nothing in the room to start a fight over, and in the summer they get a bowl of water.

Aysa, Ollie, and Trixie are crated in their individual crates. If I'm going to be gone longer than 4-5 hours I have someone come in and let them out, but that rarely happens with my family. If I know I'll be gone the full 4-5 hours I put bowls with ice cubes in their crates (during the summer).

Missie has the run of the house but I close the dog door so she stays inside. Recently I did let all of them stay out (but inside) while I ran a quick errand and they did fine, but Ollie and Trixie are bound to get into things and Aysa is likely to pee on something or get into the trash or something on the counter he wouldn't normally have an opportunity to.

So it's peace of mind, the dogs are safe, and no accidents (unless Missie decides she can't wait 5 more minutes for me to get home lol).

River has the run of the house apart from the spare room (aka the storage room!!) and the bathroom - he has a dog door so he can go outside if he wants/needs to.

He started off just with the kitchen and laundry but after he was neutered I was on holidays for the week and started off leaving him with access to more of the house for short periods of time to start with and proved himself to be trustworthy and isn't really the type of dog to go looking for trouble so it's worked out well.

When we are going to be gone, we put Chloe outside in her kennel. That way, I don't have to worry about a puppy crossing her legs holding in her pee if we will be gone all day (although she still doesn't like going in her kennel). She has shade from a tree, water, toys, and a dog house, so I'm not worried when she is outside. She also has company as her kennel is by Blackie and Rose's kennel.

I crate Mufasa. He's 10 months old and still likes to chew things up. I don't crate Abbey and Muffin, so they just go wherever they want to in the house.

When there is no one home (which is actually not very often) the dogs have the run of the house, except for the kitchen which is baby-gated off. There is usually someone home though, and when there is not it is usually for a very short time. Also, one or both dogs often come along when we go places...

Hippo is crated. She'd antagonize Saboo all day otherwise. Saboo is left loose- occasionally she eats tissues.

Foster dogs are generally crated or else shut in a bathroom. Occasionally, if they're wonderful dogs (like James... I miss him), they're allowed the run of the house with Saboo.

When I go out during the day, my dogs are crated individually -- side by side. There is a drip water bottle attached and they usually get some kind of a chewy treat. The TV is left on with the Animal Planet tuned. This is usually for less than 5 hours though.

Tomorrow, I know they will be human-less for 8 hours so they are going to Day Care.

They go in their crates, even if they're not puppies i just feel better knowing that they're secure.
