dog show in nyc?
i was in ny this morning and i saw signs all over for some kind of dog show. does anyone know what thiis event was? i was circling around for a parking spot(UUURRGGG!) and i saw a woman with a mini van full of beautiful greyhounds checking into a pretty upscale hotel. i guess they have different rules when dog shows are in town. i would have loved to check it out but didn't know when/where..etc.

Oh yes! The Westminster Kennel Club dog show - arguably the most prestigious show in the United States, one of the few remaining benched shows, and often every breeder, owner, and handler's dream to attend. I'll be watching on the telly and cheering as well!

Does anybody know what channel it is on and what time? Do you need cable (or sattilite) to watch it? If so, DRAT!!
sometimes not having cable really makes me mad. If not, what time and channel? Anybody know? (I would love to go to one of these dog shows.....maybe some time in the future...) |

sayuri, what does "benched show" mean?
i know nothing about dog shows ( my baby is mixed) except a really funny movie i saw called "best in show" if the show was on the weekend i would try and go, i live quite close to the city, but alas...i have to work to keep my baby in chew toys and expensive doggie accessories. |

It starts at 8pm on USA network. I believe you need basic cable to get this channel.
A benced show is....An all-breed show specifically designed for public education and enjoyment, wherein all dogs are required to stay in an assigned "benching area" for the duration of the show, (except when being exercised, groomed, or exhibited) in order that the public may easily view the exhibits up close and talk to the breeders, owners, and handlers. There are very few benched shows left in the USA - the ones that readily come to mind are Westminster Kennel Club in New York City, International Kennel Club in Chicago, and Golden Gate in San Francisco. These are very large, heavily attended shows by the public. Excellent for the public, but can be exhausting for the exhibitors. |

Ugh, maybe it's just me but I can't stand benched shows. Too hard on the dog. I do like to watch the actual show itself though.

well..i have a fun game:
list the fake catagory that your dog would win. i think b.b. would take home 2 first place ribbons 1.clingliest dog ( the clincher would be him trying to get on my lap while i am using the bathroom) i can see the event now. me in the center of the huge stadium..on a tiolet, in front of thousands of cheering attendees. 2.most discusting dog toy b.b. would win hands down with his amazingly fowl half chewed pig ear, complete with veins and a troublesome habit of looking as though its coming back to life when chewed on for a number of days( i swear it looks pink and soft!) anyone else??? |

I loved the Golden Gate Kennel dog show. I think the benched show was wonderful because I could pinpoint exactly where to focus my attentions on. I think it's greyt for the prospective owner/buyer because it's very convenient for the owner/buyer to converse with the breeder.

In an imaginary show Sunny would hands down win one award......................
The BIGGEST BARKER! She will and does bark at anything. I swear sometimes she barks at leaves blowing down the street. It could even be possible that she barks at snails if they move! LOL Just last night it was hailing and guess who ran downstairs to bark at the hail! LOL The best is when I am chatting with my BF online through yahoo and he buzzes me. Door bell sounds and she is in hot pursuit of the door! LOL |

Awwww... they don't televise dog shows down here.
I would have loved to have seen that. nor'eastr - Thanks so much! for the link to the website though. ![]() Imaginary catagory that Jesse would win...hmmm.... Heaviest sleeper. He can sleep through the loudest thunderstorms, he can sleep in the car in heavy traffic with horns blasting, he can sleep through action movies with the surround sound turned up so loud the humans nearly go deaf (although it probably has something to do with the fact that he's old and doesn't hear too well ). Of course high pitched sounds are another thing entirely...he's howling like a coyote when that **** phone rings for too long. LOL Cass. |

Hurray for Jeffrey! He was in fine form last night! I was pretty impressed with Luther as well - beat out Coleman 0_0! I've been pretty fond of him (Luther) since I saw him last year, so I wasn't disappointed at all. Can't say the same for Shibas....
Hmmmm...what imaginary awards would my dogs win? KIMI = Sexiest/Biggest Flirt: As longs as it's male, it's hers. And she definitely knows how to "work it" to appeal to the opposite sex. "If you've got it, flaunt it" is her motto - and in her opinion, she's got it. ALL of it. TAI = Sweetest Eyes: I absolutely melt when I look into his eyes, which is how he got one of his nicknames - "Chocolate Chip Eyes" - because they make one go all melty, just like chocolate chips in a warm, gooey cookie. |
